Track Biography:

The County Down hunt have been in existence since the early 1900’s. We have held our point-to-point meeting at Loughbrickland for over 70 years by kind permission of the Kidd family. Our autumn meeting is run in November each year with our spring fixture taking place in April.

Over the years, Loughbrickland point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as 2003 Aintree Grand national winner Bindaree and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Truckers Tavern.

One of the real attractions of point-to-point racing is the opportunity to get up close and personal with the future stars of the racing world in a relaxed and family friendly environment.

Our point-to-point is located 15 minutes away from the picturesque Slieve Gullion Forest Park which has something for all of the family including woodland trails, stunning views across the Ring of Gullion, Mourne Mountains, Cooley Peninsula and Armagh Drumlins as well as a play park and tour guides of the park.

THE BIG DOG chased some Aintree sales topper Madison To Monroe at Monksgrange in what is a notable piece ahead of his return to action which entitles him to go close. The Colin Bowe-trained Duc Dallier is another to catch the eye in this. The Lauro gelding raced a shade keenly on his debut at Portrush last month, and if learning from that introduction, he can be expected to go close, whilst Derby, Timcoda and Big Difference are others for the shortlist.

SOME RESPONSE was no match for Shumaker at Portrush recently, but this looks a wide-open race which could allow him to gain due rewards for four previous placed efforts including in a Downpatrick bumper. The newcomers could be the main danger. Of them, Cosmic Flight, is out of a three-time winner and carries the same colours of Fine Rightly, Smiths Cross represents the in-form Aidan Fitzgerald yard, whilst Mount Rushmoore is well-bred, and his trainer Richard Black has already produced some smart sorts in these colours.

This could be an ultra-competitive race, for which it is hard to look past BURNING AMBITION. His form from last season is rock-solid having beaten numerous subsequent winners at Cragmore and Courtown. The Karen McNeilly-trained Shumaker will expose any fitness questions facing the selection as he ran out a clear cut winner at Portrush last month and has race fitness on his side. The line came just in time for Canadian Steel at Dowth Hall as he hung on in a tight finish to return to winning ways, but this is a tougher race, whilst Adamstown, Milan Dancer, Star Wizzard and Drimsree Lad ensure that this is a competitive race.

QUESTIONATION took a big step forward at Portrush as she narrowly lowered the colours of the odds-on favourite Absainte. The Gerald Quinn-trained mare is the clear form selection for this on that effort. Sweety Poppet is held by the selection on that run, however she was only making her debut and can be expected to have improved, whilst Gold Runner, Rathbawn Rose, Crawfords Mill and Chesapeake, are others with place claims.

Sliabh Muire Lass proved herself to be a very tough sort when winning at Tinahely last Sunday, entitling her to strongl claims, whilst Milan Dancer beat geldings to land her maiden at Loughanmore.

KNOCKAN RUN made a costly mistake at the final fence on his debut at Largy in a small field contest, and whilst he pulled-up on his only subsequent start at Broughshane in a hunt race, it may be worth giving him a chance. The Eoin Doyle-trained Jetstream Joe had run well in a bumper at Cork in the past and he returns between the flags following two disappointing efforts over hurdles. A return to his best could see him holding claims here, along with Longtymegone, who ran well for a long way on his return from a long absence at Portrush.
