Track Biography:
Tallow is held under the auspices of West Waterford Hunt and has been running for over 100 years and is one of the oldest in the country. It is held annually on the first Sunday in February.
Tallow is steeped in equine history and has some very famous stud farms and national hunt racing stables in the area. Namely The Beeches Stud whose owner Mr Bobby McCarthy is one of the longest serving members on our committee.
Rathbarry Stud is also close by and trainers Liam Burke and Jimmy Mangan are also on the Committee. We have a very committed group of volunteers from the farming and racing fraternity and we generally are called on to help out with other local point-to-points during the season.
The races have moved three times since inception and are now located on the Conna road outside of Tallow on the lands of trainer Jimmy Mangan. Jimmy has trained many famous horses over the years with the most notable being Montys Pass winner of the Aintree Grand National.
How To Get There
By Road
From Waterford.
Head for Dungarvan and on to Lismore follow signs for Tallow and turn right in the town and follow signs to races.
From Fermoy
Turn left in the square and straight on for Tallow after 4 miles take a right for Coolagown and after village turn left at T junction to Conna and follow the signs to the races.
From Youghal
At Youghal bridge on the by-pass, take the road to Tallow straight on to the town and turn left in the square.
By Air
Our point-to-point is located 45 minutes from Cork Airport and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Waterford.

Multiply entered across the weekend, HALF THE ODDS is likely worth following closely at whichever venue she takes up her engagement at given the promise which she showed on debut at Dromahane over Christmas when finishing third behind the useful looking Cabaret Queen. Aunt Eva has failed to complete two of her last three outings and did disappoint at Kilfeacle most recently, however she has finished in the money on three occasions and on her day, can run a big race. Cheryls Dream, who ran two races in quick succession last month at Aghabullogue and Killeagh, may well be next best.

The Willie Codd-trained LOSTINTRANSALTION has a nice pedigree behind him and he offered plenty of encouragement with his opening effort in what looked a very hot maiden at Tattersalls in November. The winner subsequently topped the sales, whilst the runner-up in that same race also changed hands for a six-figure sum, and a decent run has to be expected of him here. Gortroe Joe is the obvious danger having finished third behind a nice type in Celtic Rising at Dungarvan on his debut. Meanwhile Stand Down, Shackleton, and Coole Hall are others to have shown promise to date.

A wide-open looking contest, where HOLY TERROR could be of interest having finished second behind an above average older maiden winner in Jammin Masters at Dungarvan last month. A Bottle Of Bubbly, who is likely a danger having finished placed twice this season, was well behind him in that Dungarvan contest when coming down at the final fence. Fruits Of Gold and Nuevo Molino have both shown snippets of interesting form which could be of interest for a race of this nature.

A number of the horses entered here hold alternative entries, particularly at the Belharbour fixture which could result in the race cutting up. SYDNEY PAGET is one such horse doubly entered at the two fixtures and he would have to be fancied to come out on top no matter where he lines-up. Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Sir Des Champs is feared on what could be his point-to-point debut, Aughnacurraveel seems unable to avoid Sydney Paget all season-long, whilst Minella For Value has reached a rich vein of form winning in good style at both Aghabullogue and Dungarvan.

A deserved success could await here.
