Track Biography:
Tallow is held under the auspices of West Waterford Hunt and has been running for over 100 years and is one of the oldest in the country. It is held annually on the first Sunday in February.
Tallow is steeped in equine history and has some very famous stud farms and national hunt racing stables in the area. Namely The Beeches Stud whose owner Mr Bobby McCarthy is one of the longest serving members on our committee.
Rathbarry Stud is also close by and trainers Liam Burke and Jimmy Mangan are also on the Committee. We have a very committed group of volunteers from the farming and racing fraternity and we generally are called on to help out with other local point-to-points during the season.
The races have moved three times since inception and are now located on the Conna road outside of Tallow on the lands of trainer Jimmy Mangan. Jimmy has trained many famous horses over the years with the most notable being Montys Pass winner of the Aintree Grand National.
How To Get There
By Road
From Waterford.
Head for Dungarvan and on to Lismore follow signs for Tallow and turn right in the town and follow signs to races.
From Fermoy
Turn left in the square and straight on for Tallow after 4 miles take a right for Coolagown and after village turn left at T junction to Conna and follow the signs to the races.
From Youghal
At Youghal bridge on the by-pass, take the road to Tallow straight on to the town and turn left in the square.
By Air
Our point-to-point is located 45 minutes from Cork Airport and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Waterford.

A number of the leading yards are represented with well-bred types, although many hold multiple entries across the weekend. Colin Bowe won this race last year with Crazyheart and he has two entered this year including the French-bred Ramses De Teillee, who is related to a number of track winners. The Gigginstown runner DIVIDEND may set the standard as he is out of a half-sister to Graded winner Impek, whilst Cause Toujours and Forgetthesmalltalk are other well-bred newcomers.

SPARKLING RIVER and Clondaw Nell both hold alternative engagements elsewhere this weekend and if avoiding each other, both can take maidens. Should they meet, the preference is given to the former who has been in cracking form this season and simply had the misfortune to be taken out by a loose horse at Ballyvodock last Sunday. Marienstar showed well for a long way at Killeagh last month and she looks next best of those with previous form to their name.

The Punisher was second to Minella Beau at Dromahane in December and so could hold the fitness edge over Castle On A Cloud who was a commendable second in a small field maiden at Liscarroll in April, a race which was won by Stowaway Magic who has since joined Nicky Henderson. The twice-placed Vinnie Lewis has experience to draw upon which could once again bring him into the place shake-up.

FACT FLOW must overcome a significant absence here, however he was second at Tinahely to Blacklion who is a leading contender for the RSA & National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next month, so he has shown maiden winning form in the past, whilst his trainer Noel Henley also had a winner last Sunday with Bennys Girl. Soaps Dream, Lisfinny Lady and Wayupinthebox all have form in the book, but will need to step-up on it.

His former stable companion Sizing Australia ran very well at Ballinaboola last month to finish third behind Sydney Paget and that entitles him to go close once again. Ringrone Castle is an Open winner from Borris, whilst Carry On Asian could run well on his Open debut and is unexposed.
