Track Biography:

The Roscommon hunt point-to-point was originally run over 3 and 1/3 m at Moyliss in Fuerty until the late 1940’s and included stone walls and other natural fences with part of the track run over ploughed ground. The point-to-point races ended with the demise of the hunt in the 50’s.

The hunt was revived in the Millennium Year of 2000, and on the 2nd of November 2002 the point-to-point was held at Lisbride outside Roscommon where six races were run on land owned by Mr Michael McSharry. Lisbride was home to the point-to-point until 2008 when a new track was provided by brothers Pat and Michael Bailey at Rockfield which is still home to the meeting.

The track is left handed and oval in shape, which is run over a mile in circumference with three fences in the back straight and two in the finishing straight with all fences being jumped three times.

In 2015 one of the Irelands most up-and-coming trainers, Joseph O’Brien trained his first winner at Roscommon point-to-point when his charge Minella For Me won the five-year-old maiden.

Other leading names to have emerged from Roscommon point-to-point is the 2016 winner of the four-year-old maiden, Poli Roi was sold five days later at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sales for £300,000.
