Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

Newcomers make up the bulk of the entries for this, but of those with previous experience, Colin Bowe could have the strongest hand as both LAMALRIC and Argento Royale have shown potential. The former held every chance when coming down at the last in Tallow last month. Kanog Bay was another later faller on his debut, which came at Oldtown, and he too, still held claims.

MY LIFE BE LIKE took a step forward on his stable debut around here last month when only just touched off, and if he was to continue in that improved form, he could set the standard for this. Chichester Park made the frame at Toomebridge at the start of the season before being beaten 16 lengths at Loughanmore most recently, but he returns from a break, whilst Kasino Des Mottes hails from a yard that has to be respected, and he could well have improved from his debut fourth at Tattersalls which was almost 11 months ago now.

Four lengths separated the potentially reopposing THATSJUSTME and Teddington Lock around here last month, and the forming will be seeking to confirm that here, although there may not be much separating them here as Teddington Lock is entitled to have improved for what was her initial effort. Of the others, Leading Rose should not be discounted as she finished fourth at Bellharbour last time behind a horse who has since won two races subsequently.

WINGED LEADER returned to winning ways at Farmacaffley a fortnight ago and he is fancied to repeat the feat here as he bids to gain a 30th victory in the point-to-point fields. Gorthill did get the better of him around here last year, but he has to bounce back from a non-completion at Borris House last time.

ONLY FOR OUR MAN won his four-year-old maiden around here on stable debut in November, having been well-supported in the ring beforehand. Having failed to find a buyer at the sales subsequently, he is back to repeat the feat. There is no shortage of dangers. Stablemates Weespoof and Cadoudal Saint both finished second last time, whilst Revolut Ned put up a career-best at Bellharbour last time.

VICOMTE LE BRAVE has finished second in both of his two previous visits here, including a narrow defeat at this venue last month. He again filled that spot last time out, when he home well at Farmacaffley a fortnight ago to suggest he is the one to follow in this. Blueys Unicorse has changed stables since his debut second at Dromahane, and he comes from a yard that David Christie has had success in sourcing horses from which would certainly bring him into the reckoning.
