Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

Mick Goff struck here in February with a subsequent six-figure seller, and he could bid to repeat the feat with FORTUNATE FELLA. He finished second in heavy ground at Lisronagh on his debut and now has the benefit of that initial experience under his belt. Claim The Throne may have been the last of five finishers on his debut at Punchestown, but he was only beaten just over nine lengths and so cannot be dismissed.

Matty Flynn OConnor has saddled three impressive winners in this category since the turn of the year, and SNAP FISH will bid to continue the stables good fortunes. He stepped forward from his Knockmullen House debut at Oldtown last month, when only beaten just over two lengths in a race which featured some nice types. Bold Fury could bid for quick compensation, having come down at the last in Tyrella last week when in front, whilst Chasingouttheblues and Bamford Park are others that have shown ability.

DERAVARRA ROSE was in the process of producing a much-improved performance at Oldtown last month, as she was in a close second when coming down at the final fence. A reproduction of that effort would see her as the one to beat. The more experienced Mahlers Dream has proven to be a very ground versatile mare in her latest outings as she has long been knocking on the door, whilst Currish Lane and Geordie Girl are two horses that should be open to more improvement.

AU FLUERON made an impressive stable debut at Punchestown when dismissing an in-form rival by 16 lengths. This could be a nice opportunity for him to double up. Samurai Cracker hails from an in-form stable and is better than his Portrush effort last time, whilst John The Spark and Maid On The Moon are others with placed prospects.

CABARET PRINCE impressed when running out a clearcut maiden winner at Farmacaffley recently, and although this looks like a strong renewal, he has smart recent form. Neo King has changed stables since winning his maiden by an even larger margin at Portrush just under a year ago and is feared, whilst Victor Tango is still an unknown prospect after he won by 13 lengths on debut here, with a subsequent winner among those that finished in behind him to boost the form.

TOTTENHAM GREEN disappointed at Lisronagh and cannot be a confident selection as a result, but this would look to be a good opportunity for him to recapture the form of his second to subsequent track winner Cleatus Poolaw at Fairyhouse last season. Walk Easy has long been knocking on the door and would be a deserving winner following four consecutive second-placed finishes whilst Cresthill is another for the shortlist.
