Track Biography:

The Galway Blazers have a long history of holding a point-to-point dating back over a hundred years. The hunt dates from the beginning of the 19th century and has established itself as one of the famous Irish Hunts due to the goodwill and generosity of farmers and landowners throughout the county.

We run two meetings a year at Dartfield just outside Loughrea with the first one taking place in October and the second fixture being held in April. The course is situated at Dartfield Horse Museum and heritage centre which is set on 350 acres of parkland just forty minutes from Galway city.

Over the years, Loughrea point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as Bewleys Berry, Boys Hurrah, Brindisi Breeze, Never Compromise and King Johns Castle.

LONG DRAW was in the process of running a big race on debut when coming down two-out at Knockanohill and it would be no surprise to see him gain swift compensation here. Al Gasparo is the obvious danger after he finished a promising third at Bellharbour at the beginning of February and is likely to step forward from it.

PAINTED WOLF is a horse that has likely featured in plenty of notebooks this season after he chased home the subsequent Grade 2 winner Rocky My Way at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening weekend of the season. He has not been seen in competitive action since is sure to prove popular on his return. Twentytonine finished second in an auction maiden at Corbeagh House and whilst the race has not worked out since, this does look to be an open contest.

Sean Doyle could have found a nice opportunity for ANNIE EXPRESS to bounce back to form as she was only beaten six lengths on her debut at Loughanmore last Easter, only to disappoint when returning to that same Antrim venue back in October. She has been given plenty of time since and has the strongest form in the book. Eve Moneypenny has put up two solid efforts at Ballycrystal and Kirkistown in recent weeks and could take advantage of the selection not bouncing fully back to form.

LA FELINE posted a rare below-par performance in very testing conditions last Sunday in Durrow, but she has had the measure of a number of these in the past and if not inconvenienced by the quick turnaround, she could bounce back here. The Forge Hill only has a length and a half to find with the selection from Ballycahane but is likely typically seen to best effect on Good ground. Merry Melody and Rose Of Coolbally were also behind them in Ballycahane, whilst Getawayrooney cannot be discounted if bouncing back from her Ballycrystal effort last time.

STARLIGHT CATO may have disappointed when last seen in Bellharbour, however he kept going in testing conditions in Aghabullogue before that to chase home Sir Rock in January in what is the standout piece of form in this. The newcomers will not be without their chances in a race like this and are worth a market check.
