Track Biography:

The Ormond Point to Point is staged on a Hunt Members farm just outside the village of Ballingarry (N52). It is run over 2 days, always the Sunday & Monday of the June Bank Holiday weekend, and is the final fixture of the Point to Point Season. 

We have been fortunate enough to have many Point to Point champions crowned in Ballingarry.  Derek O’Connor, Jamie Codd and Barry O’Neill have all won their titles at Ballingarry in recent times.

How To Get There

By Road

From Dublin – Head south on M7 take exit for Roscrea.  In Roscrea follow signposts to Shinrone.  Enter Shinrone turn left into village and then right out of village.  6Km  to Ballingarry.  In Ballingarry turn right in front of The Glue Pot pub. Then left out of the village.  The course is less than 1km out of village on the left.

From Tullamore – Through Birr at round about past Count Arms Hotel take 3rd exit following the signpost for Borrisokane.  Next round about take 3rd exit.  Remain on this road for approx. 8km to Ballingarry.  Half way through the village turn right for Aglish. The course is less than 1km out of village on the left.

From Limerick – M7 North.  Take 1st Exit for Nenagh.  Follow the signs for Borrisokane (12 KM from Nenagh).  In Borrisokane drive through the town, at the bottom of the town turn right following the signs for Birr and Ballingarry (5km).  Half way through the village past the pub turn left out of the village.  The course is less than 1km out of village on the left.

By Air

Our point-to-point is located an hour and three quaters from Cork and Shannon Aiports, and just two hours from Dublin Airport.

Facilities

We have a number of excellent facilities at the track. We are lucky to have an abundance of car parking space and parking is free to those attending the point to point.

The car park attendants will direct disabled patrons to a designated area in the car park. There will also be a dedicated section of the spectators’ area for disabled patrons. There will also be a portaloo suitable for disabled access.

There will be portaloos spread throughout the venue.

The Betting Ring is conveniently located in close proximately to the parade ring and track, throw an eye over the runners before deciding where to place your hard earned cash !

Food

There will be food stalls and a seating area which will allow all race goers to enjoy the day in comfort.

We will have a number of food outlets located at the track for the day which will serve a wide range of hot and cold foods and snacks for our patrons to enjoy.

For something a little sweeter, there will be an Ice Cream Van and a number of confectionary stalls. There is sure to be something for everyone.

Beverages

There will be on offer a selection of coffees and hot drinks while the fast food caterers offer soft drinks.

There is no bar on site but there are a number of local hostelries in the local area where you can either celebrate a win or alternatively wonder where it all went wrong.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, we do not have a dress code for the point-to-point.

Yes, please feel free to bring your dogs along, just ensure to keep them on a lead at all times.

Yes, however you can leave the work up to someone else for the day, there will be a range of hot and cold foods available.

Yes, there will be a bouncing castle !

No, we do not have an ATM on course.

Amenities

With a superb view of the track, this event is ideal for those who would like to enjoy a picnic while watching the racing.

Race goers have the opportunity to get a close up of the action when the runners are being saddled and paraded in the parade ring before their race.

This could be a hard puzzle to solve with no placed form on offer. Of those with previous experience SOLDIER UNKNOWN had been sent off as the favourite when making his debut in Dawstown, and although only finishing seventh, he was not beaten too far and has the benefit of that experience. Passengerontheship was also sent off at the top of the market for his debut in Grennan, and he looks the obvious danger, whilst Jullou De Grissay finished fourth at Taylorstown last weekend and had his supporters in the market.

CASTLE RUBY has been absent since finishing third at Lingstown in November. The horses that finished either side of her have since won their maidens and she could be the one to side with in this, although there are plenty of contenders. Knockaneleigh Girl was unlucky to depart at the last in Grennan, The Kids Choice finished second at Dromahane, whilst Neat Locality led all the way until making a mistake at the last in Stradbally last weekend.

PAIDIN BEAG took a big step forward at Grennan a couple of weeks ago as he was only headed by the short-priced favourite on the run-in, and a reproduction of that effort would leave him as the one to beat. Bennettshill has not been seen since finishing fifth on his debut over a year ago, but if building on that promise he would be a definite danger, ahead of The Hurdler and Radharc Na Slaine.

MA HOEY was a beaten favourite at Bartlemy last time, but if she bounced back to her best she had beaten the re-opposing Aghmorough Bridge by eight lengths at Durrow earlier in the campaign. The latter has won twice since and could get closer here given the better ground conditions. Croi Corcora has won three of her last four starts in the pointing fields but has not been seen in this sphere since December 2021.
