Track Biography:

We are a local Farmers hunt, dating back to 1860 and became a hunt club in 1917.

It first started hunt on Thursdays and then moved to hunting on Sundays.

We now hunt two days a week Saturdays and Wednesdays.  The country hunted is mainly banks and ditches.

We help many charitable caused in the Limerick area, to mention a few Milford Care Centre, Mid -Western Cancer Foundation Ltd, Children’s Arch Unit University Hospital Limerick, Daughters Charity St Vincent’s, Liskenett Equine Therapy Centre.

How To Get There

By Road:

From Nenagh, Tipperary, Clare take the N20 to Cork/Tralee and come off at junction 4 for Patrickswell, at the roundabout take  first exit for Limerick Race Course, continue on to the T junction (Crecora Church) take a right, continue on about a mile past Crecora Cross (post office on your right) course on your right (less than 300 yards).

Facilities

Combined with our free parking, we are lucky to have a clear viewing track that allows race goers to get up close to the action, often from the comfort of their car, should they wish to bring their own picnic for the family.

There are certain parts of the track that can be used to facilitate disabled parking so as to cater for every eager race goer.

The bookmakers ring is conveniently situated in close proximity to the parade. Check out all the runners before deciding where to place your hard earned cash!

Food

In between races, spectators can avail of a variety of catering options provided.

Outside caterers provide tasty beef burgers, sausages, chips with tea, coffee and soft drinks on the day.

All please visit our hospitality tent where we have a wide range of sandwiches, biscuits and cakes on offer.

The venue lends itself very well to family picnics when the weather is favourable.

Beverages

We are very lucky to have a very hard-working ladies committee who volunteer to run a food tent, serving tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches.

This tent is open after the third race and everybody is welcome to come in and enjoy all the home-made food.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

There is no official dress code. It is an out door event, so advise race goers to stay warm and dry for the day and prepare your self for all types of weather.

Yes, you can bring your dog, but we do ask you keep on a lead at all time.

Yes, spectators are welcome to bring the own picnics.

No, but because the children can get up close to the action we find they love watching the races.

No ATM on course. There is one in the local shop in Patrickwell or at the Banks in Raheen.

Amenities

Ballycahane point-to-point is the perfect day out for the family in the countryside and as an added bonus for parents all children U16 have free admission.

With Limerick city only a short distance from the track, there is an endless amount of attractions to keep you busy within the area. The picturesque town of Killarney is also only an hour and half drive from the point-to-point.

Having finished a close second at Ballyvodock on his debut earlier this month, PAY THE PIPER would have been expected to have gone one place better when sent off as the odds-on favourite at Nenagh on his re-appearance. He once again had to settle for the second spot, but would once again be the one to beat on the form book. Bold Pimpernel could be set for a quick re-appearance having finished second in a three-runner maiden last Saturday in Armagh, whilst Grange Road, Valichad and Fabrique En France are others to have shown promise to date.

A reproduction of that effort would certainly see her go close here. Victorias Peak is another that had to settle for the runners-up spot on her debut, chasing home Drumlee Getaway at Punchestown a fortnight, whilst Little Mo and Rachels Surprise are others with place claims.

The reigning champion mare has beaten many of these in the past, including at Lisronagh in November when winning a similar contest for the second consecutive year. Chapter Two and Rosfoyle finished first and second at Dungarvan and would look the biggest threats, whilst four-year-old winners Moore Clouds and Doyen Queen are both better than their respective efforts this season and cannot be discounted.

Crio Cuervos recaptured some of the promise that he had shown as a younger horse when finishing a closing second at Punchestown a fortnight ago and he is sure to be in the mix once again, alongside One For The Yard, who was second at Aghabullogue on his penultimate outing. Mr West Coast has been sent off as a short-priced favourite in each of his two latest efforts, and he could be able to vindicate some of that market confidence.
