Track Biography:
The records show The Fermanagh Harriers Point to Point Steeplechases began an annual fixture as far back as 1905, when the races were held at Dunbar outside Enniskillen. This is the location of our annual Boxing Day Hunt today!
Over the years the venue has changed once or twice but it has been held at the current location, Necarne Castle, since 1999.
Necarne Castle is located adjacent to the town of Irvinestown and it is with the kind permission of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council thet we have been able to avail of this excellent venue.
Traditionally our Two-day meeting takes place Early-Mid May, which normally leads to some added excitement as various riders are usually vieing for the jockeys championship at this closing stage of the season.
Course preparation and the running of the point to point is all done on a voluntary basis by the members of the Hunt

How To Get There
By Car
From Belfast -Take the M1 out of Belfast City and continue to join the A4. At the roundabout take the Tullyvar Rd/A5. At the next roundabout take the first exit onto the B46. Follow B46 to Tummery Rd/A32 in Dromore. Continue to Irvinestown, continue to Necarne Castle, there will be sign posts for the point-to-point.
From Dublin - From the M50 take exit 6 onto the Navan Rd towards the N3. Continue on the N3 to join the M3, N3, A509 and A32 to Fermanagh. Continue on the A32 to Necarne Castle, there will be sign posts for the point-to-point.
By Air
Our point-to-point is situated just under 2 and a half hours from Dublin Airport and one hour and three quarters from Belfast International Airport.

Ample free car parking is available for all spectators.
Temporary toilets are provided in a number of locations on site.
There is a betting ring on site allowing racegoers to get involved in the action. There will be a number of bookmakers that will have betting on UK and Ireland race meetings.

There will be outside caterers provide hot food options to order in the form of burgers and chips and other fast food options. These are located in close proximity to the parade ring and bookmakers.
There will be a teat tent in situ, with a array of home made goodies, cakes and sandwiches ! If crepes are more your thing, we will have them too !
The beautiful grounds at Necarne Castle lend themselves very well to family picnics, when the weather is favourable.

Set in beautiful Fermanagh countryside just being outdoors is a great pleasure at Necarne Castle
However in recent years the Committee have indroduced addittional attractions to make our Point to Point races a day for all the Family.
This year we will have Best Dressed Competitions, A childrens funfair and a dog show.
Necarne also lends itself to pleasant walks and even a Picnic!

It could be worth siding with TANGA MUGI in this. She was running a big race on her debut when coming down at the penultimate fence in Lisronagh last month whilst sitting in a close third, and the race winner was subsequently sold for E260,000. Things have not gone the way of Brave Lioness, however, she did make a promising start to her career when finishing third at Borris House, a race which is working out well as the second and fourth horses have won since, whilst the Loughanmore-fourth Moral Compass represents the in-form Rob James.

Eamonn Doyle has his string operating at a notable 36 per cent, and it would be no surprise to see FIERCESTONE add to that after her debut effort in Ballysteen where she could have finished a closer second but for an error at the last. She had the potentially reopposing Boombox well covered on that occasion, which may leave Five Shiros as the big danger. She was no match for a subsequent bumper runner-up when second at Lingstown back in November, but she is likely to play a big role in this as she returns from a mid-season break.

Jonathan Fogarty has certainly been a handler to follow this season, and he could add to his 12 winners for the campaign with TREASURE BORN. The Libertarian gelding finished third at Tullaherin last month behind a horse that was subsequently sold for E205,000, and he can advertise that form in this. Max Impact ran well for a long way before falling on his debut in Ballyvodock, whilst Ger Quinn won both divisions of this race last year, and his newcomer Glenhead would have to be respected on that basis.

It could be very hard to oppose THAT OLD CHESTNUT as she could prove to be the class act of the race following her second at Fairyhouse two weeks ago in a big-field maiden. That was her first run back in nearly two years, so she is entitled to come forward from it. Dontcall was placed for a third time this season when third at Ballindenisk last Sunday, Craan Rose finished second in this last year, and she came back to form at Ballysteen last time, whilst Wings In The Wind is progressing of late, but has form to overturn with the selection.
