Track Biography:

Dromahane is one of the busiest courses on the point-to-point calendar, regularly hosting a number of fixtures each year for a number of different hunts, including Duhallow, Doneraile, Muskerry, Cloyne and Killeady from 1988 onwards. 

The track is owned by the O'Brien Family

The 2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Native River is at the top of the list of recent star graduates from Dromahane which also includes the likes of Graded winners No More Heroes, Marias Benefit, Free Expression, Seeyouatmidnight, alongside Cheltenham Festival winners Black Hercules and The Druids Nephew.

Most recent Dromahane graduates include: Grade 1 Aintree Festival novice hurdle winner Jonbon, Dual Champion Hurdle and 11 time Grade 1 winner Honeysuckle, 2021 Supreme novice hurdle winner Appreciate It, 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Minella Indo and 2021 Albert Bartlett novice hurdle winner Vanillier.

How To Get There

By Road

From Mallow- At the roundabout take the N20 for Cork and continue out the road and take the R620 to Dromahane. In the village of Dromahane turn left up the hill. Continue up that road and veer left, (not to bweeng). Take the first left up that road. Use Eircode P51N6TO. It will be signposted from main road.

From Cork - On the Cork Mallow Road N20 turn left for Dromahane on the R620.In the village of Dromahane turn left up the hill. Continue up that road and veer left, (not to bweeng). Take the first left up that road. Use Eircode P51N6TO. It will be signposted from main road.

From Killarney - On the Main Mallow to Killarney Road (N72) on Navigation Road take a right on to the R621 and follow the road signposted for Dromahane. Use Eircode P51N6TO. It will be signposted from the main road.

Facilities

Combined with extensive free parking we have a clear viewing track that allows race goers to get as close to the action as possible.

We can also provide disabled parking on the day if racegoers inform one of our parking stewards on their way into the point-to-point.

We have portaloo’s and changing facilities for toddlers on the course.

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both England and Ireland.
 

Food

Chips, Burgers, Soup, sandwiches, sweets and drinks are available on the track which are all provided by a professional catering company.

There is also plenty of space for families to enjoy picnics if you choose to bring one with you for the day.

If you would like a sweet treat during the day we also have a confectionary stall at the meeting.
 

Beverages

We have numerous catering options available on the track which offer teas and coffees.

For those looking for something a little more substantial why not get a cup of soup, perfect for keeping yourself warm in-between races.

The sweet stand and catering outlets will also have a number of minerals available for purchase.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to dress warmly with waterproof shoes or boots.

Dogs are very welcome, but need to be kept on a lead at all times.

Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics or refreshments.

Weather permitting we will have a free bouncy castle.

No we do not provide an ATM so we recommend that you make a stop in the nearby town of Mallow on your way to the races.

Amenities

Children under 16 are free and when weather permits we have a free bouncing castle.

There is a wide open space for kids to run around whilst the adults can soak up the racing action, spotting the next National Hunt star of the future.

Nothing beats the excitement of the closing stages of a race and our track ensures that you have a great view. Our final fence and finishing straight are both fantastic viewing points for  spectators.

As we are an outdoor event that only happens once a year, many of our facilities are only temporary which adds to the real character of the event. We do of course have a number of portaloos, catering options and much more to ensure you have a very pleasant experience with us.

Our point-to-point is located half an hour from Cork city which makes it extremely accessible for visitors to combine a city break with a day out in the countryside.

QUEEN OF THE GALES went close to making a winning debut last month, when she was pitched in against geldings in an auction maiden. She jumped the last upsides on that occasion, and ultimately only missed out by less than a length. She could step forward from that. The Harley Dunne-trained pair of Josie Bee and Tricksofthetrade have both made the frame in the past and present the biggest challenge of those with previous experience.

Honey Come Quick has been sent off at relatively short odds for her two outings, and whilst failing to complete both, there could be more to come from her, whilst Walks The Walk is a newcomer that cost E45,000 at the store sales.

GAMEOFINCHES would have finished second to the recent debut hurdle winner Clondaw General but for falling at the last in Cragmore earlier in the year. With the form of that race working out well, it would be no surprise to see him make a winning return. Ashtown Park has come up second best in two of his three starts to date and should not be too far away, alongside Create The Future who took a big step forward at Curraghmore a fortnight ago.

The former Cheltenham Festival winner Angels Dawn has not been seen since falling in the Kim Muir back in March whilst trying to defend her crown in that contest, and the 143-rated mare who finished third in the Thyestes at the beginning of the year, could be the one to follow for in-form connections. Er Dancer and Ramillies are closely matched on their Loughrea effort last month and have both won subsequently, whilst Pat Coyne and Prophets Corner add further depth to this race.

ASPUROFTHEMOMENT made a pleasing return to the pointing fields at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening weekend of the season, which is sure to have left him spot-on for this. Song For My Father was in the shake-up to be placed at Lisronagh last weekend, whilst Turlough OConnor won this race last year, and his Taketwotoone ran well in a four-year-old mares maiden around here last Christmas, which is a form that would have to be respected.
