Track Biography:

East Down Foxhounds Point-to-Point course at Tyrella is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mourne Mountains made famous by the Percy French song.

With the 2018 Spring season, East Down will have been racing at Tyrella for fifty four years. Two meetings are held each Spring, in January and March.

Normally the first meeting of the Spring calendar in the Northern Region, Tyrella is a right handed undulating track where, given it’s close proximity to the sea and sandy soil is well drained and more often than not, produces good going.

This video from @NotFromHereStories gives you a snapshot of the picture-postcard setting that Tyrella point-to-point takes place in.

One of the real treats of racing at Tyrella, is just how close racegoers can get to the action.

LOUD AND PROUD could be turned out for the second week in a row, and she comes here hot off a career-best when staying on strongly to finish a close third in a bunched finish at Ballycrystal last Sunday. In contrast, Lamie Caouette has yet to reproduce the promise of her debut in Tattersalls last year, but does have claims on the pick of her form, as she had the potentially re-opposing Culligran a length behind her in that Tattersalls run.

INCITATUS has been knocked down to Henrietta Knight for 200,000stg as a store, and he showed plenty of promise on his recent debut at Aghabullogue, only fading late into third. That run should stand to him. Cabaret Prince cut out much of the running on his own debut in testing conditions at Tattersalls before Christmas, and better conditions should bring him forward here, whilst Ballybrittas has more experience to call upon and it would not be a surprise to see him take a step forward following a break.

DE NORDENER could appear for the third weekend in a row, and he has been in top form since joining Sam Curling this season, as he won well at Ballycrystal last Sunday, having been set to chase home the talented Ramillies in open company at Turtulla the week before that. He looks to be the class act in this. Toomebridge winner Raceview Road ran respectably in a point-to-point bumper at Fairyhouse in November, whilst Clashhill needs to bounce back from a sub-par effort in Tinahely.

THE JAM MAN impressed when getting the better of Dinny Lacey on his stable debut in Ballindenisk earlier this month and it could be worth siding with the former Troytown Chase winner here. There is no shortage of dangers, however, with Jay Bee Why interesting on his first start since falling at Moira in October, as prior to that he had defeated Wowsham in Portrush, Arverne and Focus Point have both won at Tinahely this season, whilst the former dual Grade 1 winner Battleoverdoyen has not run since he finished a very creditable fifth over the National fences at Aintree in the Topham last year.

BIG GIRL BETTY bypassed a couple of potential engagements recently, but she would likely hold strong claims in this if reproducing the same form of her second against geldings in a hunter case at Downpatrick at the end of last season. Side Show brings more recent form to the table having finished third two weeks ago in Turtulla, whilst Glenetty could not be discounted if bouncing back to her 2022 bumper form following two disappointing efforts last season.

SLIEVEHILL was well backed for this race last year for what was his then stable debut, and whilst just coming up short in second, he has since gone on to fill that position again at Moira back in October, in form that has since been franked. He could be rewarded here. Some Bro only got to the ninth at Lingstown but went close at Moira prior to that, whilst Tottenham Green has skipped a number of engagements in recent weeks, but he has strong form in the book from last season.
