Track Biography:

The Galway Blazers have a long history of holding a point-to-point dating back over a hundred years. The hunt dates from the beginning of the 19th century and has established itself as one of the famous Irish Hunts due to the goodwill and generosity of farmers and landowners throughout the county.

We run two meetings a year at Dartfield just outside Loughrea with the first one taking place in October and the second fixture being held in April. The course is situated at Dartfield Horse Museum and heritage centre which is set on 350 acres of parkland just forty minutes from Galway city.

Over the years, Loughrea point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as Bewleys Berry, Boys Hurrah, Brindisi Breeze, Never Compromise and King Johns Castle.

ROSSBRIDGE was only beaten by seven lengths on debut at Moira and if he has progressed over the summer, he could be the one to follow in what is an open-looking race. Wild Nephin is looking to bounce back to form, as he had finished third in a small field maiden at Comea on debut, a race that he was sent off as the favourite for, but then failed to complete on his only subsequent start at Loughanmore over Easter.

ISHOLO DU VIVIEN was only denied by a length at Tyrella on his penultimate start and if taking up this engagement over his alternative entry in Toomebridge on Saturday, he would look to be the one to beat. Cash Cut ran well for a long way on his debut last Sunday and is entitled to step forward from it, whilst Declan Queally has been doing very well with new additions to his stables, and Midnight Show could be another horse to fit into that bracket if stepping forward from a placed effort at Stradbally in May.

KNOCKANELEIGH GIRL finished second at Fairyhouse last spring when with Jason OReilly, and having gained experience over hurdles with three quick runs in maiden hurdles during August, she could be the answer to this. Share The Joy represents a stable that were in the winners enclosure in Sligo recently and this 80-rated hurdler could prove more competitive in a race like this.

ULTIMATE OPTIMIST is a two-time Hunter Chase winner and he is taken to bounce back from his defeat at Cork over Easter which came at a time when the stable had a few favourites beaten. Focus Point enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks last season culminating in back-to-back open victories in Grennan and Ballingarry, whilst Wrong Direction could be an interesting returnee to this sphere as his return from a two-year lay-off during the summer showed that he retained plenty of his old ability.

WALLACE OLINGER could make a belated start to his career at the age of six and he has the pedigree to suggest he could make an immediate impression, being a half-brother to Bob Olinger, a three-time Grade 1 winner for Brian Acheson. He is sure to be the one many will be following. Bob The Builder was aided by the addition of cheekpieces when finishing placed at a big price in a Wexford maiden hurdle during the summer, and looks to bring the pick of the form, as Kyler Kane has disappointed since making the frame at Borris House a year and a half ago.

AGENT TEQUILA took a big step forward on his seasonal re-appearance at Castletown-Geoghegan when running out a wide-margin winner and this could be a good opportunity for him to quickly double up. Alvarez Eclipse was strongly fancied when opening his account at Grennan in May and has since run well over hurdles at Cork, whilst La Vega Moon also gained his maiden success on that same Grennan card and has now joined new connections.
