Track Biography:

We run a two-day point-to-point each spring beside the grounds of Durrow Abbey House and Durrow Church which was founded by St Columba in 553.

The back straight runs right in front of the beautiful Durrow Abbey House and makes the point-to-point one of the most picturesque meetings in Ireland. The grounds of our well-presented race track, with its compact location of parade ring, bookies, finish line and services give a pleasant race day experience close to the action.

Our point-to-point is located 10 minutes away from the town of Tullamore which has an abundance of pubs and restaurants as well as plenty of shops and popular tourist attractions such as Tullamore’s large distillery which makes Tullamore Dew, a popular Irish whiskey.

The return of racing to Durrow begins with a four-year-old auction maiden for horses that were bought for E25,000 or less at the store sales last year and it is the mare MAIN STAGE who brings the only previous form into the race. Her ultimate finishing position may have been enhanced by two final-fence casualties, but she was making a solid debut nonetheless and will get a good standard for the geldings to take on.

PAINTED WOLF is a horse that has likely featured in plenty of notebooks this season after he chased home the subsequent Grade 2 winner Rocky My Way at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening weekend of the season. He has not been seen in competitive action since is sure to prove popular on his return. Of the potential dangers from outside of the Colin Bowe stable, Georgie Burgess chased home a subsequent winner in Aghabullogue before disappointing in Oldtown and cannot be discounted if bouncing back, whilst The Village Way is entitled to step forward from his Boulta debut.

IDYLEE SAUVAGE got closer to Romeo Magico than might have been expected on her first completed start since switching stables in an unplaced maiden at Castlelands a couple of weeks ago and that promising run against geldings would definitely leave her in the mix for what is an open race on paper. Emilys Choice and Dancetilldawn also have previous placed form, whilst the veteran Strong Roots has changed stable since she was last seen and she is battle-hardened handicapper who may also be worth noting.

MA HOEY split the last two champion point-to-point mares when she was narrowly defeated in a mares open contest in Ballycahane at the beginning of the month. A reproduction of that performance could give her the edge over Aghmorough Bridge who really does seem to have taken a step forward in recent weeks. Dancing After Dark missed the Tetratema Cup last weekend but would not be without her chance here having finished a closed second over hurdles in Kilbeggan on her penultimate start.

ER DANCER was an easy winner of arguably what was a deeper non-graded open in Oldtown last month and if bypassing the St Patricks Day Hunter Chase at Down Royal to come here, he could be hard to beat. The mare La Feline could be the chief beneficiary should the selection run in Down Royal as the reigning champion mare is already a four-time winner this season, whilst The Blind Piper could make an immediate impact on his open debut having been given a break after a below par performance at Limerick over Christmas.

CLARABELLO acquitted himself well on his return to the pointing sphere at Farmacaffley last month and whilst his conqueror has not advertised the form since when disappointing at Kirkistown last weekend, his track form should leave him as the one to beat. Dylans Delight is an obvious danger as he would have gone close but before unseating in Ballycahane, whilst Seattle Seahawk cannot be discounted if bouncing back from his Borris House effort where he stopped quickly.
