Track Biography:

The South Westmeath Hunt have a long history of holding a point-to-point meeting spanning over 100-years as far back as the early 1900’s. The point-to-point was originally held in Kilkenny West before being moved to Listisson, The Pigeons in 1978.  In 2020 they moved to their current location Umma House.

Situated less than 15km`s south-west of their former long-standing course, the track is a good galloping track with two long straights.

How To Get There

By Road:

From Moate town;
Take the L1303 out of Moate (Ballymore on the sign) keep left for ballymore. At the end of that road stay right for ballymore. Take the second road on the left. The p2p is a quarter of a mile down that road on the right.

The eircode N37YY98 will bring people to the road that they will be turning left at to take them to the p2p.

Facilities

We are delighted to be able to provide free parking which allows spectators to have a clear view right around the track. This also allows the public to stay dry in their car without missing out on any of the action if the weather takes a turn for the worst.

Looking to keep updated with on-track racing which is also taking place on same day in Britain or Ireland? Well you won’t miss a thing. Head over the bookmaker’s ring where all of the day’s off-course horse racing, be it at Leopardstown or Cheltenham, will be shown and you can also bet on the away action alongside our own races.

As we are an outdoor event that only happens once a year, many of our facilities are only temporary which adds to the real character of the event. We do of course have a number of portaloos, catering options and much more to ensure you have a very pleasant experience with us.
 

Food

In between races, spectators can avail of the variety of catering options that we have on offer.

Our food tent is located beside the parade ring which means you don’t have to venture too far from the action to enjoy the social side of point-to-pointing.

There is also a choice of soup and homemade sandwiches on offer supplied by our committee members.

If hot food isn’t what you are looking for, we also have a delicious selection of cakes, buns and other tempting sweet treats that are made fresh by our hard-working committee members.

Beverages

We have a choice of hot drinks on offer, from teas and coffees to hot chocolates and soft drinks served to you from our tea tent and or our outside catering vendors.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to stay warm and dry for your days racing and to prepare yourself for all types of Irish weather.

Yes, we allow dogs to attend the point-to-point. However, we do ask that all dogs are kept on a lead at all times.

Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics as our parking inside the center of the course offers the perfect location for a picnic. We also have a range of catering options on course if you fancy picking-up something tasty on the go.

At our point-to-point, we are lucky to have wide open spaces for children to play in a safe environment.

No we do not provide an ATM but we our only a short drive from the village of Glasson which has ATM facilities so we recommend that you stop over on your way to the races.

Amenities

A day at Umma House point-to-point races is the ideal day out for all the family in the heart of the Irish countryside.

One of the real treats of racing at Umma House, is just how close racegoers can get to the action. Watch the horses being saddled up by their trainers before making your way to the parade ring where the horses, jockeys and connections gather to discuss their pre-race tactics.

Selected your fancy for the race? Well head over to the betting ring where our friendly bookmakers are waiting to take your bet for the race and now it’s time watch the race itself.

Our younger racegoers are at the heart of our race day with free admission for children under 16 ensuring it is an inexpensive location for Mum and Dad to bring the whole family out on a Sunday afternoon.

Baby changing facilities are available and if you ever need a bottle heated then please just ask a committee member.

There would not look to be much separating quite a few of these on what they have produced to date, although the marginal preference would go to BARRONS LAND. Having got no further than the first on debut in Ballingarry, she put up a fine effort a week later in Dromahane to finish second. She likely sets the standard for this ahead of Bold Reflection who contested a decent looking maiden in Ballycahane which was won by Kudasheva. This would look to be an ideal opportunity for her to gain compensation. The former American National winner BRAIN POWER looked as good as ever when he inflicted an eight and a half length defeat on the reigning champion point-to-point horse Some Man at Moira earlier this month. If he was to reproduce that form he could be hard to beat. Fellow former Grade 1 winner Hardline also had the measure of Some Man when winning in Castletown-Geoghegan and he is an obvious danger alongside points newcomer Snow Falcon. He is a former four-time Grade 2 winner, but has not been seen since falling at the Chair in last seasons Becher Chase.

The Tom Keating-trained Shantou Moon was set to make the frame at Castletown-Geoghegan on his return to action earlier this month only to exit at the final fence, he would look to set the standard of those with a previous completed effort to their name, ahead of the three-time placed Forcing Bull. However it is JET PATROL that catches the eye. He was sent off as the favourite for a big-field maiden at Lingstown in March and although falling early that market confidence should be notes especially with the stable producing a Tinahely double last Sunday.

CAPPAJUNE LADY is the only one of this quartet with a previous victory to her name, and this two-time winner returned in good form at Castletown Geoghegan earlier in the month to suggest that she is the horse to beat here. Le Mieux was a shade disappointing at Portrush last Saturday but is entitled to come on for the run, and that may leave Cool Captain as the chief danger to Cappajune Lady. He was second on that same card in Castletown-Geoghegan in an older maiden which has already produced a subsequent winner.
