Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

SHANAVOUN LADY bumped into a smart looking sort on her debut at Borris House in December and with the form already having been boosted, she would certainly seem to be setting the standard in this. Ringneill was not match for Double Smart around here in November but has been consistent and is certainly knocking on the door, whilst Tango Theatre took a step forward at Tyrella and is another for the shortlist.

THE DARA MAN made an eye-catching introduction around here before Christmas when not beaten far in a four-year-old maiden before running respectably in a red-hot Tyrella contest last month, a race that has already produced a subsequent winner from amongst the lower order finishers. Western Limits is another with previous course form as he came from off the pace to finish a close third here at the same fixture, whilst Will Carver, Land Afar, Nothin To Ask and The Silent Trainer add further depth.

EDDIES MIRACLE has been tough to oppose this season winning on each of his three outings, with his most recent success coming at Tyrella a fortnight ago, when he had a number of his potential opponents in this behind him, including Tycoon Prince, Chase End Charlie, and Lomachenko. Stable companion Winged Leader has been plying his trade in Hunter Chases of late and has to be respected, as too does Mount Colah.

MT LEINSTER GOLD followed up her impressive Dawtown maiden victory on her re-appearance in testing conditions at Carrigarostig last month to ensure she is the one to beat in this. Double Smart is a course and distance winner from November and should find nothing of the calibre of Crossing Lines in this having failed to land a blow against geldings at Tattersalls Farm before Christmas, whilst Moore Clouds is a four-year-old maiden winner, and so has to be respected as she is likely better than what she produced at Ballindenisk.

The long absent ZIHUATANEJO chased home the 137-rated hurdler Champagne Platinum on his one and only outing to date which came at Quakerstown back in April 2018. Having bypassed a number of potential engagements since, that form looks strong if he can overcome the lengthy time on the side lines. Goldazar ran his best race to date when second in this very race 12 months ago on debut and ran respectably behind an above average winner at Tyrella last time, a race that he finished just behind Airdrigh in. Tardree is another that cannot be discounted.
