Track Biography:

The Ormond Point to Point is staged on a Hunt Members farm just outside the village of Ballingarry (N52). It is run over 2 days, always the Sunday & Monday of the June Bank Holiday weekend, and is the final fixture of the Point to Point Season. 

We have been fortunate enough to have many Point to Point champions crowned in Ballingarry.  Derek O’Connor, Jamie Codd and Barry O’Neill have all won their titles at Ballingarry in recent times.

How To Get There

By Road

From Dublin – Head south on M7 take exit for Roscrea.  In Roscrea follow signposts to Shinrone.  Enter Shinrone turn left into village and then right out of village.  6Km  to Ballingarry.  In Ballingarry turn right in front of The Glue Pot pub. Then left out of the village.  The course is less than 1km out of village on the left.

From Tullamore – Through Birr at round about past Count Arms Hotel take 3rd exit following the signpost for Borrisokane.  Next round about take 3rd exit.  Remain on this road for approx. 8km to Ballingarry.  Half way through the village turn right for Aglish. The course is less than 1km out of village on the left.

From Limerick – M7 North.  Take 1st Exit for Nenagh.  Follow the signs for Borrisokane (12 KM from Nenagh).  In Borrisokane drive through the town, at the bottom of the town turn right following the signs for Birr and Ballingarry (5km).  Half way through the village past the pub turn left out of the village.  The course is less than 1km out of village on the left.

By Air

Our point-to-point is located an hour and three quaters from Cork and Shannon Aiports, and just two hours from Dublin Airport.

Facilities

We have a number of excellent facilities at the track. We are lucky to have an abundance of car parking space and parking is free to those attending the point to point.

The car park attendants will direct disabled patrons to a designated area in the car park. There will also be a dedicated section of the spectators’ area for disabled patrons. There will also be a portaloo suitable for disabled access.

There will be portaloos spread throughout the venue.

The Betting Ring is conveniently located in close proximately to the parade ring and track, throw an eye over the runners before deciding where to place your hard earned cash !

Food

There will be food stalls and a seating area which will allow all race goers to enjoy the day in comfort.

We will have a number of food outlets located at the track for the day which will serve a wide range of hot and cold foods and snacks for our patrons to enjoy.

For something a little sweeter, there will be an Ice Cream Van and a number of confectionary stalls. There is sure to be something for everyone.

No, we do not have a dress code for the point-to-point.

Yes, please feel free to bring your dogs along, just ensure to keep them on a lead at all times.

Yes, however you can leave the work up to someone else for the day, there will be a range of hot and cold foods available.

Yes, there will be a bouncing castle !

No, we do not have an ATM on course.

Sean Doyle has sent out winners on each of the past couple of weekends and he could continue his good end to the season with THE GUARDIAN here. The daughter of Stowaway was pitched in against geldings for her debut at Tralee last Saturday where she emerged with plenty of credit by finishing a fine fourth. Miss Mondito was a beaten favourite at Dromahane last month but had run well in Rathcannon on her debut ensuring she has definite live chances, with Presenting Ana and Gettysburgh others that cannot be discounted.

Whilst this is an end of season contest, it does certainly not lack for depth as it could be a very interesting contest with both LARKFIELD LEGACY and Honey Come Home both bringing eye-catching form into the race. The former gets the marginal preference as she bumped into the very smart looking Mt Leinster Gold at Dawstown most recently, with Meep Meep Mag, whom she finished two lengths in front of, advertising the form by winning at Loughanmore a week later. Honey Come Home ran a huge race on her debut at Loughrea last month when coming up against two more experienced rivals. Having only gone down by a half-a-length on that occasion, she is the obvious alternative, with Cobra Angel, Shabba Dada Do, Woodfield Symphony, and Gold Creek add further depth to this race.

On all known form to date, this should be a mere penalty kick for LONGHOUSE MUSIC as the dominant mare of the season looks to add to her tally in a race where she is almost impossible to oppose. Stablemate Poetic Presence was a winner last Saturday at Tralee when she had Oscar Bonnie 24 lengths behind her, on the same card that Save Us Avis won her maiden. Doran The Legend has been a beaten favourite on four successive starts and will be proving costly to follow for his supporters, whilst Mustmeetforapint was a shade disappointing at Loughrea most recently, but would certainly enter the reckoning on some of his better runs, as she has twice finished in the runners-up spot.
