Track Biography:


The records show The Fermanagh Harriers Point to Point Steeplechases began an annual fixture as far back as 1905, when the races were held at Dunbar outside Enniskillen. This is the location of our annual Boxing Day Hunt today!

Over the years the venue has changed once or twice but it has been held at the current location, Necarne Castle, since 1999.

Necarne Castle is located adjacent to the town of Irvinestown and it is with the kind permission of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council thet we have been able to avail of this excellent venue.

Traditionally our Two-day meeting takes place Early-Mid May, which normally leads to some added excitement as various riders are usually vieing for the jockeys championship at this closing stage of the season.

Course preparation and the running of the point to point is all done on a voluntary basis by the members of the Hunt

How To Get There

By Car

From Belfast -Take the M1 out of Belfast City and continue to join the A4. At the roundabout take the Tullyvar Rd/A5. At the next roundabout take the first exit onto the B46. Follow B46 to Tummery Rd/A32 in Dromore. Continue to Irvinestown, continue to Necarne Castle, there will be sign posts for the point-to-point.

From Dublin - From the M50 take exit 6 onto the Navan Rd towards the N3. Continue on the N3 to join the M3, N3, A509 and A32 to Fermanagh. Continue on the A32 to Necarne Castle, there will be sign posts for the point-to-point.

By Air

Our point-to-point is situated just under 2 and a half hours from Dublin Airport and one hour and three quarters from Belfast International Airport.

Ample free car parking is available for all spectators.

Temporary toilets are provided in a number of locations on site.

There is a betting ring on site allowing racegoers to get involved in the action. There will be a number of bookmakers that will have betting on UK and Ireland race meetings.

Food

There will be outside caterers provide hot food options to order in the form of burgers and chips and other fast food options. These are located in close proximity to the parade ring and bookmakers.

There will be a teat tent in situ, with a array of home made goodies, cakes and sandwiches ! If crepes are more your thing, we will have them too !

The beautiful grounds at Necarne Castle lend themselves very well to family picnics, when the weather is favourable.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, We do not have a dress code for our point-to-point ! Hopefully we will have some good weather, but remember to dress for the fickle Irish Spring !

Yes, please feel free to bring along your canine pals, just ensure to keep them on a lead at all times !

Of course, our beautiful venue lends itself perfectly to a picnic !

Yes, we will have an array of childrens entertainment !

No, we do not have an ATM on cours unfortunately.

Amenities

Set in beautiful Fermanagh countryside just being outdoors is a great pleasure at Necarne Castle

However in recent years the Committee have indroduced addittional attractions to make our Point to Point races a day for all the Family.

This year we will have Best Dressed Competitions, A childrens funfair and a dog show.

Necarne also lends itself to pleasant walks and even a Picnic!

The Donnchadh Doyle team have been in cracking form within the four-year-old maidens in this region in recent times and his LADY TREMAINE brings the strongest form into this on account of her debut third at Turtulla in March. She may have disappointed subsequently at Monksgrange, but she is worth a second chance. Robin Des Smoke, Ill Be That Lady and Bold Pearl offered promise on their respective debuts and will be expected to step up.

ATLANTIC BLAZE has not been seen since finishing a fine fourth to Robin Des Sivola in a four-year-old maiden at Toomebridge on the opening day of the season and she is an interesting contender here for what looks an open affair. Rarest Diamond disappointed at Monksgrange but was only narrowly denied on her debut at Dungarvan in January and a return to that form would leave her as a big player, alongside the Quakerstown third Move Closer and Princess Cave who was unable to follow up her Courtown promise when only fourth in Oldcastle.

An ultra-competitive renewal for the time of the year with many of the seasons leading performers in this division entered including SYDNEY PAGET who got the better of Longhouse Music when the pair met at Quakerstown last month. Samanntom, a stablemate of the selection is unlikely to line-up against him in opposition, but if he was the stables representative, he should go close as he goes in search of a fourth success on the bounce. Some Are Lucky inflicted a first point-to-point defeat of the season on Kruzhlinin at Fairyhouse and they complete the principal contenders.
