Track Biography:

The Mid-Antrim Hunt was formally set up in the 1870’s as a harrier pack, although it was in existence for at least a hundred years before that. It was believed to have had its first official meeting in The Thatch Pub in Broughshane in 1875.

The Mid Antrim point-to-point Course is just outside Moneyglass very close to Toomebridge. Toome or Toomebridge (from Irish: Tuaim, meaning "tumulus"), is a small village and townland on the northwest corner of Lough Neagh in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Moneyglass was at one time home to Malachy McCourt and his family who was the father of Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes, a winner of The Pulitzer Prize, the NBCC Award, The LA Times Award and the Royal Society of Literature Award.
 
Champion National Hunt jockey and 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner, Tony McCoy, who received an OBE in 2010, was born in Moneyglass.

Another sports star reared in Moneyglass was world famous Rugby Union player Willie John McBride who capped for Ireland on 63 occasions which includes 12 times as Captain.

How To Get There

Raceview Rd going left to right is the way you will come in from the A26 which is off the M2.  Access to the course if from the Caherty Road, and cars will approach from off the Woodside Road, and Lorries and Horseboxes by driving through Broughshane turning right at the Yellow Slemish Tavern and then first right again onto the Caherty Road.

Directions to the track

Coming in from the A26, Horse boxes and lorries will be asked to approach the track by driving through Broughshane, and cars will turn off left just before the entrance to the village.

We have an extensive car parking area.

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both Britain and Ireland.

Our outside food caterers, Country Bites, sell an array of hot food options such as burgers and chips to bacon and sausage rolls to keep you full during the day.

If you would like a treat for the day we also have an ice-cream van in attendance.

Beverages

Race goers can purchase teas and coffees from our special coffee cart that sells a variety of popular coffee options.

Soft drinks and juices can be purchased from our outside catering outlet.

If you would like something a little stronger to keep you warm during your day’s racing, alcohol can be purchased in our on-course bar.

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to stay warm and dry for your days racing and to prepare yourself for all types of Irish weather.

Yes, we allow dogs to attend the point-to-point. However, we do ask that all dogs are kept on a lead at all times.

Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics. We also have a range of catering options on course if you would like to pick up something at the races.

Yes, we have a bouncing castle.

No, we do not provide an ATM so we recommend that you make a stop at an ATM on your way to the races.

Amenities

Broughshane point-to-point is the perfect day out for the family in the Northern Ireland countryside, and as an added bonus for parents all children U16 have free admission.

We also provide race cards with each admission on the day.

The son of Windsor Knot has been sent off as the favourite for both outings, and is clearly well thought of. Openthebackdoor has finished third at Lisronagh and Bellurgan Park, whilst the Denis Murphy pairing of Eurowork and Lifeisahighway are others we have seen a good bit of and they can both get involved in a race like this.

Having been patiently ridden, she made up a lot of late ground and will be a very interesting prospect here if turned out again quickly. Fyfin Patsy is another that could be set for a quick re-appearance, as she finished third at Fairyhouse on the same afternoon ? her second consecutive placed finish, whilst Deo Bellator improved to finish third at Moira.

The trio of LOUGH DERG LYRIC, Royal Drumlee and Oscar Academy are all going in search of a hat-trick, with the preference going to the former who bypassed a number of potential engagements last Sunday but has impressed in recent times, with a number of winners emerging from his latest success at Ballyragget. Royal Drumlee won well at Portrush, whilst Oscar Academy was withdrawn from a similar race at Monksgrange last Sunday, a course that he had won his maiden at a month earlier.
