Track Biography:

The Wexford foxhounds was formed in 1810 at Slevoy castle.

Our point-to-point has been in different locations over the years including Wexford racecourse, Gowran Park and Lingstown before being moved to its current location at Moorefields in November 2011. We run two meetings a year, one in the autumn at Knockmullen House, with our spring fixture taking place in Ballinaboola on the first weekend in February.

Set in the heart of Co. Wexford the course is left handed with a circuit of one mile and three fences in the home straight providing many exciting close finishes.

It is a very fair track of two long straights with two gentle left-handed bends, there are five fences on each circuit which measures a mile a lap.

The track has produced many top class individuals including the likes of Envoi Allen who made a winning debut in the four-year-old maiden in 2018 before progressing to become a multiple Grade 1 winner. That 2018 renewal also saw Appreciate It finish third, and he has also gone on to become a multiple Grade 1 winner in his own right for Willie Mullins.

In one of the first four-year-old maiden races of the year, Giovanni Acuto is the only horse in the line-up with previous experience, however he would need to step up from his debut, where he finished last in a seven-furlong maiden at Wolverhampton for Roger Charlton. Colin Bowe and Pat Doyle have won the last two renewals of this race, and they are both represented with entries this time around. A market check will give the best guide as to what is expected from the newcomers.

The Donnchadh Doyle-trained KEEP WONDERING did not enjoy the smoothest of passages on his debut at Oldcastle in May, but to his credit he stayed on strongly up the hill there to finish second. With the form of the race being bolstered by three subsequent winners emerging from it, he would look to be the one to side with here. Casey Jem certainly made a pleasing debut at Ballindenisk before Christmas, when coming down at the final fence whilst looking destined for the third spot. That run will certainly stand to him and is the obvious alternative. Clondaw Promise, Rainbow Chaser and Global Fame are among the other contenders.

The ultra-consistent SUBTLE QUEST may well have been no match for the impressive Take It Away at Dromahane in the autumn, but with four consecutive placed efforts to her name, there are few horses in here more deserving of a maiden success. Sadhbhs Delight ran three times last month, including at Tinahely when she finished in front of last weeks Tyrella winner Achy Breaky Heart, ensuring she should hold leading claims. Quivvy Lough and Lexis Warrior are others capable of getting into the mix.

Track recruit PYRIOS could make his point-to-point debut here with a notable hurdles mark of 108. That follows seven starts in England for Philip Hobbs, and he would look hard to oppose on his first outing for the David Christie stable. De Barley Basket is well-related to A Hare Breath and Global Citizen and can improve on his debut at Dromahane in what is a wide open race outside of the selection.

SPRINGFIELD FOX has developed into a winning machine in recent weeks, winning three races on the trot within the space of just over a month, with his latest wide-margin victory coming at Kilfeacle just last Sunday. If Winged Leader was to line up in opposition it would likely be his toughest assignment to date, as that Loughbrickland four-year-old maiden winner in the autumn won a winners race around here and is a very capable sort for races of this nature. Tinahely winner Ballinasilla and Cross Country specialist Vital Island are also worth a second look.

TED has long hinted that he should be capable of winning an older maiden, and having produced a career best at Borris House last time, his connections will be hopeful that this will be his long-awaited opportunity to get his head in front. Mister Flemington has returned from a long absence this year and is capable of improving upon his sixth at Boulta last months, whilst Getaway Home and Mista Wabbit Man are regulars in these race, with the latter having twice finished in the first four around here.
