Track Biography:

East Down Foxhounds Point-to-Point course at Tyrella is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mourne Mountains made famous by the Percy French song.

With the 2018 Spring season, East Down will have been racing at Tyrella for fifty four years. Two meetings are held each Spring, in January and March.

Normally the first meeting of the Spring calendar in the Northern Region, Tyrella is a right handed undulating track where, given it’s close proximity to the sea and sandy soil is well drained and more often than not, produces good going.

This video from @NotFromHereStories gives you a snapshot of the picture-postcard setting that Tyrella point-to-point takes place in.

The Jerry Cosgrave-trained PANIC YOUR BEAT has offered plenty of encouragement with her opening two outings, despite failing to complete a race to date. Two falls late on in competitive four-year-old races in the spring would likely leave her as the one to beat providing she can put in a clean round of jumping here. The obvious danger is the two-time placed Quivvy Lough, although she has yet to hit the heights of her form from last season in two outings before Christmas. Achy Breaky Heart ran well for a long way on her debut at Tinahely earlier this month and can be expected to have improved.

The Denis Murphy pair of Lifeisahighway and WHATSUPWITHYOU both finished in the placings last time out leaving them as the two that set the benchmark in this. Preference is given to the latter, a son of Shantou that stayed-on well up the hill at Tinahely to finish a close second a fortnight ago. Islandray ran solid races in two very competitive four-year-old maidens in the autumn, and may find things easier in this.

GETAMAN appeared to take a big step forward with his wide-margin success at Portrush in October, and whilst he has not been seen since, he can follow up in this. Winged Leader won twice as a four-year-old in the autumn when with Donnchadh Doyle, including when taking on older horses at Ballinaboola. He has since joined the David Christie yard, and he was very much on an upward trajectory before Christmas. Hi Murphy from the Sean McParlan yard is the obvious danger as a fellow two-time winner from the autumn and he will be sure to give the selection a strong challenge.

KRUZHLININ will look to move alongside Longhouse Music on the five-winner mark for the season with victory here following a number of comprehensive successes already this campaign, including over the potentially re-opposing former champion pointer Anseanachai Cliste at Tinahely earlier this month. Arbre De Vie is the latest former classy Willie Mullins track performer to go point-to-pointing with Colin McBratney, and he previously finished fourth in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival and has to be respected. The ultra-consistent Drawn N Drank always runs his race and he will have conditions in his favour.

AIRGEAD SUAS has been forced to settle for the runners-up spot on each of her three outings in recent weeks, with a final-fence blunder certainly hampering her cause at Aghabullogue most recently. She will surely make amends here. Annie McCarroll was placed twice last season and has changed yards since last seeing competitive action, as too has Clondaw Nell, who returns from a significant lay-off, but was placed behind Ms Parfois in her younger days. Of the others, Uppertown Poppie was unable to follow up her Mainstown run last week, whilst The Kitchenmechanic ran well at Tinahely.

Gordon Elliott has an interesting pair of track recruits entered here in Three Kings and SMOKING DIXIE, with preference given to the latter, as he was sent off as the favourite for a Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter in September on his last start for Warren Greatrex. The eight-year-old has twice finished placed under rules and does not have a lot of miles on the clock. Bunninaden is capable when putting his best foot forward and Duty Calls was placed on his penultimate start.
