Track Biography:

The firsts set of National Hunt Committee rules were published in 1889 and Kilkenny Hunt with its long illustrious history of holding point-to-point meets can trace its first meeting back to then. Point-to-point meetings were held under the master ship of Ikey Bell at Lacken, near Bonnettstown in 1909 and from 1914 meetings were at Bishopslough.

Thereafter meetings continued to circulate around the country, 1926 in Ballyfacey, 1927 Rahelty, 1948 Stonecarthy, 1949-1959 Wollengrange, Gowran 1960-1989. From there the point-to-point moved to Brambelstown, Kilbline, Grennan and then to its current location in Damma House.

We hold two meetings during the season, one in November and one in May. Our tracks over the years have seen many winners go on to establish themselves amongst the elite of the racing world, dual Welsh National winner Mountainous and Tranquil Sea to name but a few.

The Denis Murphy pairing of BUSINESSMAN and Highate Hill have both shown promise to date, and the former would have to be given real consideration on the performance that he produced to finish third behind subsequent sales topper Lecales Article at Largy on debut. He can improve on his Tinahely reappearance where the race did not go his way. The likes of Colin McKeever, Mick Goff, Colin Bowe and Ellen Doyle have all had winners in recent weeks, and they could all be represented by newcomers which are worth a market check.

Track recruit ASK HEATHER could make her point-to-point debut here with a hurdles mark of 94 following a placed run at Fairyhouse in February, and that could see her as the one to beat on her first start for Declan Queally. Gold Time was a consistent performer for Martin Corrigan in the spring and she would not need to improve much to get among the challengers, alongside Tap The Biscuit who ended her first campaign with an encouraging third at Ballingarry in June.

GAYE BREEZE was very unlucky to meet with considerable trouble in running at The Pigeons when carried completely off the course by a loose horse. It is to his credit that he still managed to finish in fourth, and he can supplement a promising second at Castletown earlier in the month, with victory here. Lisronagh Stone put in a career best at Loughrea on his reappearance which bodes well, whilst the likes of Reallyradical, Vital Sign and Myrons, who has changed yards over the summer, are others for the shortlist.

FULLASTHESEA is a very interesting entry here for the very-much in-form Mick Goff team, as the Champs Elysees gelding will look to bounce back to the form which saw him win a Moira four-year-old maiden by 20 lengths, a race which has produced four subsequent maiden winners. Following two disappointing runs in bumpers, he returns to points here. A number of last time out maiden winners could line up in opposition, including the Paul Nolan-trained Shawshank, who won well at Castletown-Geoghegan, and the likes of Minimum Mix and No More Monkeys.

KRUZHLINEN may not have made much impact in the 2017 Scottish National on his last competitive appearance, however he could make his Irish point-to-point debut here with a mark of 144 and as a previous Grade 3 winner. He has to be feared. Eddies Miracle ran a great race on the flat over 1m 2f in the Corinthian Challenge at Leopardstown last Saturday and is the obvious danger, alongside the likes of Macs Legend, Samanntom and Some Are Lucky.

The very consistent ASK HARRY finished third on his reappearance at Castletown-Geoghegan in a race which produced two of the winners on the Dowth Hall card last Sunday, and on that basis, he sets a very solid benchmark for this competitive race, but will need to overturn the placings with the mare Kiera Royale. There are a host of horses with placed form that can get involved here, including the Marie Harding pair of Bright Rhett and Jean Lecroix, Coach Road, Glorious Galway, My Forever Friend, and Glorious Ziva, who has switched yards during the summer.
