Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

Warren Ewing has saddled the winner of the last two renewals of this race, with Cesar Collonges in 2016 and Sending Love in 2017, so whichever of his three representatives, Bold Plan, Major Detail and Going Solo, take up this engagement, could well be worth a market check. Colin Bowe and Cormac Doyle, who both saddled four-year-old winners last weekend are also represented here and clearly have their young horses in good form.

A wide-open looking contest, where LUCYS GOLD, who was running a solid race on her debut at Borris House, could be expected to step-up here. The Shark Hanlon-trained Whistling Dolly will look to capitalise on the step forward that she took when crossing the Irish Sea to contest a maiden at the Barbury International point-to-point last month, where she chased home a convincing wide-margin victor. Tin Town Liz was fourth in a three-year-old maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse back in December 2016, and she has changed yards since and could be of interest on her return from an absence.

Donnchadh Doyle saddled a very impressive winner of a similar contest at Bellharbour last Sunday, and his newcomer in this, DIGER DAUDAIE, could be of real interest. Duc Dallier, Skyhill, Ballyart and Home Place are all evenly matched and have plenty of experience now, whilst Bridle Loanan has been sent off as the favourite for his last two outings, and could be better than what he has shown on the track to date.

A fascinating open with plenty of potential contenders, spearheaded by the return of BALNASLOW. The 11-year-old finished placed at both the Aintree and Punchestown Festivals in the Spring before chasing home Young Hurricane in the Stratford Foxhunters. Call Me Bubbles created a big impression when winning at Loughanmore in October 2016, and he could be a big danger on his return from a long absence. The ultra-consistent Cavite Beta, a winner on his reappearance at Dowth Hall, the former Grade 1 winner Morning Assembley, Quiet Account and Sambremont all add further depth to this contest.

MILAN DANCER started off this season in flying form, and she will look to get back to winning ways, having found subsequent winner, Carrignagapple too good at Ballindenisk before Christmas when taking on geldings. Back against her own sex here, she is a leading fancy for this. Mollyking beat the now two-time track winner, Pass The Ball, at Taylorstown, and whilst she herself was beaten in three outings under rules during the summer, she can be a leading force on her return between the flags. Moira winner, He Knows My Name, was seen to good effect at Killeagh and she is another contender.

COMMANDING SPIRIT went close to getting off the mark at Tyrella a fortnight, ago and this Presenting gelding, who has filled the runners-up spot on each of his last three outings, is entitled to get his head in front here. Top Tikket is another consistent performer who will be looking to go one place better than his second in this race 12 months ago, whilst the newcomer, Paddys Hill, could prove popular as he is closely related to Tammys Hill, who won the 2014 Foxhunters at the Cheltenham Festival for the same connections.
