Track Biography:

The Killinick Harriers point-to-point has been held at the costal track of Lingstown since 1962. The point-to-point is said to have commenced in the late 1800’s. The previous venues being Foleys of Granask, Harveysglass, Knockhowlin and Cousinstown.

The track itself is a free-draining track and runs down to the Irish Sea on one side and Tacumshane Lake on the eastern side. Over the years there has been many successful trainers and jockeys partnerships forged at Lingstown. An example of this is Padge Berry and his nephew John and, in recent years, William Codd and his brother Jamie, who is one of the leading amateur riders in Ireland both on the track and in point-to-points.

Lingstown has been a successful hunting ground for the Wexford trainers of Colin Bowe, Denis Murphy and the Doyle brothers, to name but a few. There are two meetings held there each season, one in November and one on the second Sunday in March. We hold our banks race at each fixture which is always a great spectacle to watch.

Lingstown has produced many stars over the years such as the 2017 Aintree Grand National winner, One For Arthur and the former Kerry National winner Rath Of Titans as well as Marie Banrigh who was sold for a record breaking £320,000 at the Cheltenham festival sale after winning at Lingstown a few days previous.

GOLDENCARD chased home recent Chepstow winner Chooseyourweapon at Inch on his debut last season and he can be expected to have improved for his reappearance run at Tinahely last month when finishing fourth to a smart type. Stable companion Always On The Ball was a beaten favourite on debut, but the well-bred Kapgarde gelding is sure to come on from that promising fourth, whilst Darsi In The Park has been unlucky not to complete in two starts to date, as he had been running well on both occasions prior to his departure.

The Aidan Fitzgerald yard is in flying form at present and it would be no surprise to see LARA TROT leave her run at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening day of the season well behind her. She had finished a close third at Tralee on her debut in late May and that looks the pick of the form here. Crawfords Mill has finished fourth in all three appearances to date and she posted a career best when we last saw her at Oldcaslte. Tourgar Pure Gold, In Arrears and Valcourt are others to have shown promise to date.

LAGGANSTOWN was staying-on powerfully in the closing stages to get within a neck of success at Quakerstown in April, having shown promise in two previous efforts. Making his debut for Peter Flood, a yard who have already had a winner this season, he looks the one to beat on the form. Turlough is very well bred as a half-brother to Voler La Vedette and he can improve from his Dromahane fourth on debut, whilst Davy Street and Rules Of War are others to have shown promise on their first outings.

A very competitive looking renewal of the Banks race with Ladies Cup-third Blue Templar and Tabhachtach representing yards well capable of producing winners in this sphere. Preference is given to the former who has the proven himself over similar obstacles. The Jim Dreaper-trained pairing of Venitien De Mai and Sizing Coal catch the eye. The latter dug deep to score at Portrush, whilst the former is a high class staying chaser on his day who can be sure to have improved following his reappearance run at Loughrea. Meanwhile, My Murphy is the winner of the 2016 Thyestes Chase and is another sure to go close.

SCREAMING COLOURS has only two previous runs to his name, however after being narrowly beaten on debut in Oldcastle, he ran out a comfortable winner at Ballingarry and it would be no surprise to see him double up here on his return to action. The mare Bloodstream has race fitness on her side and drops back from open company where she finished second at Lisronagh. Carrignagapple has won his last two starts in British Points at Upcott Cross and Flete Park by wide-margins, whilst Fivecardstud is a contender on his Dromahane form.

A wide open looking race which may see the mares come out on top, as Rathbawn Rose and RAINBOWS AT DAWN having both shown enough in the past to suggest that they are capable of taking a race of this nature. The latter, who is locally trained, was still holding big claims last Sunday at Ballinaboola before parting company with her rider. Keel Over, who ran well at Ballingarry in June, and Belushed, a regular in these races, are others for the shortlist.
