Track Biography:

Dromahane is one of the busiest courses on the point-to-point calendar, regularly hosting a number of fixtures each year for a number of different hunts, including Duhallow, Doneraile, Muskerry, Cloyne and Killeady from 1988 onwards. 

The track is owned by the O'Brien Family

The 2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Native River is at the top of the list of recent star graduates from Dromahane which also includes the likes of Graded winners No More Heroes, Marias Benefit, Free Expression, Seeyouatmidnight, alongside Cheltenham Festival winners Black Hercules and The Druids Nephew.

Most recent Dromahane graduates include: Grade 1 Aintree Festival novice hurdle winner Jonbon, Dual Champion Hurdle and 11 time Grade 1 winner Honeysuckle, 2021 Supreme novice hurdle winner Appreciate It, 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Minella Indo and 2021 Albert Bartlett novice hurdle winner Vanillier.

How To Get There

By Road

From Mallow- At the roundabout take the N20 for Cork and continue out the road and take the R620 to Dromahane. In the village of Dromahane turn left up the hill. Continue up that road and veer left, (not to bweeng). Take the first left up that road. Use Eircode P51N6TO. It will be signposted from main road.

From Cork - On the Cork Mallow Road N20 turn left for Dromahane on the R620.In the village of Dromahane turn left up the hill. Continue up that road and veer left, (not to bweeng). Take the first left up that road. Use Eircode P51N6TO. It will be signposted from main road.

From Killarney - On the Main Mallow to Killarney Road (N72) on Navigation Road take a right on to the R621 and follow the road signposted for Dromahane. Use Eircode P51N6TO. It will be signposted from the main road.

By Air

Our point-to-point is located forty five minutes from Cork airport.

Facilities

Combined with extensive free parking we have a clear viewing track that allows race goers to get as close to the action as possible.

We can also provide disabled parking on the day if racegoers inform one of our parking stewards on their way into the point-to-point.

We have portaloo’s and changing facilities for toddlers on the course.

In our bookmakers ring you can view and bet on any off-course races on the day in both England and Ireland.
 

Food

Chips, Burgers, Soup, sandwiches, sweets and drinks are available on the track which are all provided by a professional catering company.

There is also plenty of space for families to enjoy picnics if you choose to bring one with you for the day.

If you would like a sweet treat during the day we also have a confectionary stall at the meeting.
 

Beverages

We have a selection of tea, coffees and minerals available from the catering company and the shop.

faqs

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to dress warmly with waterproof shoes or boots.

Dogs are very welcome, but need to be kept on a lead at all times.

Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics or refreshments.

Weather permitting we will have a free bouncy castle.

No we do not provide an ATM so we recommend that you make a stop in the nearby town of Mallow on your way to the races.

Amenities

Children under 16 are free and when weather permits we have a free bouncing castle.

Our point-to-point is located half an hour from Cork city which makes it extremely accessible for visitors to combine a city break with a day out in the countryside.

MALACHYS GIRL built up a good bit of experience towards the end of last spring, finishing a close second at both Curraheen and Kinsale, and that experience should really stand to her here. The Warren Ewing-trained Hawthorn Cottage is another mare with two second-placed efforts to her name and she will likely not be too far away. Recent Lisronagh third Alvor Bay, and the Colin Bowe pairing of Its All A Lark and Go Millie Go are others for the shortlist.

Colin Bowe has his four-year-olds in top form at present and his DUC DALLIER, who is entered at all three fixtures, caught the eye on debut at Portrush when finishing in third. There was not a lot separating The Ferry Master and Great Fairy at Rathcannon, whilst Inch fourth Timcoda, and Chinensis, who ran with promise around here in May, are others to consider.

The James Sheehan-trained SHAZZAMATAZ finished in front of two subsequent winners when she took third at Ballynoe on her debut. Unable to make the frame when running in the P2P.ie point-to-point bumper at Tipperary afterwards, the switch back between the flags could be rewarded here. Valcourt and Millview Storm are two more experienced rivals, and they look the pick of the others with previous experience.

This could prove to be one of the hottest races of the season if some of the leading contenders take up their entry here with a number of Grade 1 winners in the line-up including the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere and Punchestown Gold Cup victor Sir Des Champs. Preference is given to SYDNEY PAGET who won this race last season and is looking to extend his winning run to six. Lac Fontana is another previous Grade 1 winner, who has also enjoyed success in the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, whilst A Decent Excuse is already a two-time winner this season and B L Swagger, another very capable danger.

CROOKESMOOR is from the family of the globetrotting point-to-point graduate Clondaw Warrior, and he ran well on his first completed start at Rathcannon last month when bumping into a very easy winner in Johnny Sue. He likely sets the standard on that run. Glorious Galway finished fourth around here on his debut and looks the big threat, whilst Ballyhoulihan has placed form to his name and will run his race.
