Track Biography:


The records show The Fermanagh Harriers Point to Point Steeplechases began an annual fixture as far back as 1905, when the races were held at Dunbar outside Enniskillen. This is the location of our annual Boxing Day Hunt today!

Over the years the venue has changed once or twice but it has been held at the current location, Necarne Castle, since 1999.

Necarne Castle is located adjacent to the town of Irvinestown and it is with the kind permission of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council thet we have been able to avail of this excellent venue.

Traditionally our Two-day meeting takes place Early-Mid May, which normally leads to some added excitement as various riders are usually vieing for the jockeys championship at this closing stage of the season.

Course preparation and the running of the point to point is all done on a voluntary basis by the members of the Hunt
 

How To Get There

By Car

From Belfast -Take the M1 out of Belfast City and continue to join the A4. At the roundabout take the Tullyvar Rd/A5. At the next roundabout take the first exit onto the B46. Follow B46 to Tummery Rd/A32 in Dromore. Continue to Irvinestown, continue to Necarne Castle, there will be sign posts for the point-to-point.

From Dublin - From the M50 take exit 6 onto the Navan Rd towards the N3. Continue on the N3 to join the M3, N3, A509 and A32 to Fermanagh. Continue on the A32 to Necarne Castle, there will be sign posts for the point-to-point.

By Air

Our point-to-point is situated just under 2 and a half hours from Dublin Airport and one hour and three quarters from Belfast International Airport.

Donnchadh Doyle has been in fine form of late and his gelding PRESENT FROM DUBAI made a more than pleasing debut at The Pigeons in March. Beaten just over four-lengths in a hot looking race, the Dubai Destination gelding travelled smoothly throughout and looked like he would come on for the run, having shown signs of greenness in the closing stages. Mytermsoryours represents the Denis Murphy string who have also been running well in these maidens and looks sure to have a bright future judging by his debut third placed finish. The second on that occasion has won since while the first sold for 125,000 euros at a recent sale. He rates a danger alongside Ballymoy and Risky Gold.

CROWDED ROOM made his pointing debut back in 2011 and carved himself a decent track career for David Christie following that. The Oscar gelding returned to the pointing circuit in early February and ran out an impressive eight-length winner at Kirkistown. His form has been solid since and he looks sure to go well here. Keephimbachwilliam has placed five-times since March 1st and his latest effort at Fairyhouse suggested he is well capable of being involved here. Infrontofthejudge for James Lambe looks best of the remainder.

ALKA STEP was beaten eight-lengths on debut at Lisronagh and showed plenty on that occasion, coming from off the pace to challenge at the final fence. Trained by John Walsh, he looks a smart sort who is well capable of taking an event like this. Williamthesixth also made a nice introduction when finishing second at Loughanmore recently and the third that day who he beat by eight-lengths has since come out and placed again. He looks a danger alongside Skyhill Allstar and Present News.

Number seven for the season, he looked as good as ever and showed no signs of stopping following a long season. He is taken to score again. AUNT EVA managed to put it all together when winning on her eighth attempt for handler Colin Bowe. Clearly improving for the better ground on that occasion, under similar conditions she is taken to follow up with another win here. Bollmann Lady also hails from the Colin Bowe yard and would have to be feared having been running consistently well since making her debut at Fairyhouse last April. Having finished fourth first time out this season, she should improve on that and make a bold bid. The Heather Kiernan-trained Presentingprincess looks best of the rest.

Trained by Lady Jane Alexander, the Bach gelding has placed five-times since March 1st and his latest effort at Fairyhouse suggested he is well capable of being involved in the finish here.
