Track Biography:
The firsts set of National Hunt Committee rules were published in 1889 and Kilkenny Hunt with its long illustrious history of holding point-to-point meets can trace its first meeting back to then. Point-to-point meetings were held under the master ship of Ikey Bell at Lacken, near Bonnettstown in 1909 and from 1914 meetings were at Bishopslough.
Thereafter meetings continued to circulate around the country, 1926 in Ballyfacey, 1927 Rahelty, 1948 Stonecarthy, 1949-1959 Wollengrange, Gowran 1960-1989. From there the point-to-point moved to Brambelstown and Kilbline and then to its current location in Grennan, Thomastown.
We hold two meetings during the season, one in November and one in May. Our tracks over the years have seen many winners go on to establish themselves amongst the elite of the racing world, dual Welsh National winner Mountainous and Tranquil Sea to name but a few.
How To Get There
By Road
From Dublin– Exit the M9 at junction 7 towards Thomastown/Gowran/Paulstown R448, at the roundabout take the first exit, go through the next roundabout and at the third roundabout take the third exit onto the Gorsebridge road/ R448, continue to follow R448 through Gowran and Thomastown. Exit Thomastown in the Waterford direction R448 over the bridge into Mill Street. Turn left onto the Mall and take the first left onto Castle Avenue (sign posted GAA grounds).
From Waterford – At junction 10 take the R699 exit for Thomastown, at the roundabout take the third exit onto R699 go through one roundabout at the next roundabout take the second exit following signs for Thomastown. At the next roundabout take the first exit. Continue on to the cross roads and turn left onto the R448 for approximately 6km. Turn right onto the Mall and take the first left onto Castle avenue (sign posted GAA grounds)

HAWTHORN COTTAGE stepped up noticeably on her debut effort, when she finished second in a similar event at Largy recently. The Warren Ewing-trained mare looked at home on the good ground conditions and that form entitles her to be of interest today. Western Perk unseated on debut but ran a big race to finish third next time out, the same race that the selection ran in. Timetoget showed plenty on debut to finish fourth and if able to build on that she would be able to get involved.

DJARKEVI represents the in-form Donnchadh Doyle team who has plenty of four-year-old winners this season. This Khalkevi gelding was beaten just three-lengths on debut at Ballysteen recently. He jumped and travelled well that day, so looks the one to side with. Leskinfere looks a nice type for handler Liam Kenny and went with plenty of promise when finishing third on debut. Trained by leading handler Colin Bowe, the Beneficial gelding has form on the quicker ground and should play a leading hand here. Happy Lad was a faller at Fairyhouse when still travelling well and having made a fine impression on debut, he is taken to bounce back here and put in a good performance. CARASY made a bad mistake four out on her second start at Largy recently. That mistake proved costly and the Smadoun mare was on the back foot from there. Trained by Andrew Latta she finished third on debut and she will have learnt plenty from her latest effort. She looks the one to side with here. Ballina Lady is one of the more experienced in the race and has looked a much more threatening opponent on her last two starts. She is a danger to the selection along with Vivalino and Grageelagh Girl.

OURMANMASSINI got back on track following a fall at Quakerstown recently. Six wins for the season, Peter Floods charge is taken to score again here as he bids to become this seasons leading pointer. Maple Mons was an easy winner of a Fairyhouse hunter chase last month and the Great Exhibition mare will bid to put a disappointing effort at Punchestown behind her if lining up here. Better B Quick was a worthy winner at Largy recently and will bid for a second success this season for handler Ashleigh Murphy. Character Actor, Old Laxey and Rosc Catha can all enter the place shake-up.

The final race on the card sees some experienced types line up and it may pay to side with the Willie Codd-trained IMPERIAL OSCAR. The Oscar gelding was in the process of running another solid race when falling at the final fence at Ballyragget and if putting in a clear round here, he is likely to play a hand in the finish. Darwin Dancer if putting his best foot forward can get involved, while Call Me and Steel Dawn can also play a leading role.
