Track Biography:

Kinsale Point to Point along with running a two-day premier race meeting at the end of the point-to-point season also hold an Autumn fixture.

It's a great family day out, the racetrack has superb viewing with food, drink and entertainment.

The first official record of a South Union Foxhounds point-to-point race dates from 1945, when it was held at Warner’s Cross. In 1947, the races moved to Ballinrea near Carrigaline.

In more recent years, the races were held at Cappagh, very close to Kinsale, with winter fixtures at Rochestown.

The races moved to Fort Arthur on the Old Head of Kinsale briefly before alighting on the current site at Farrangalway in 2007.

Kinsale is the gourmet centre of Ireland ! Don’t forget to plan for some seriously good food in one of Kinsale’s award-winning restaurants such as Fishy Fishy, Bastion, The Blue Hazen and Finns Table, to name a few.

There’s something for everyone – did you know Kinsale people are environmental pioneers, leading the way as a “Transition Town”? Or that Kinsale marks the start of the famous Wild Atlantic Way?

The Kinsale meeting held in the Spring marks the end of the Point-to-Point season, where jockey and trainer championships are decided, and there is great rivalry with horses competing from as far afield as Northern Ireland. Sunday also features family entertainment, with a hound parade, dog show, pony rides and best-dressed competitions, topped off with a concert.

 

 

How To Get There

By Road

From Cork City – Jack Lynch Tunnel. Take South Link (N25) West for about 10 km and exit left onto the Bandon Road N71. Take N71 for about 10km to the roundabout at Halfway Village and take 1st exit to Kinsale, R 607 and stay on for 10km. Turn right at White post and Rail fence. Racecourse is well signposted.

PURE AFFECTION improved notably for her debut effort when she shedded her maiden tag for handler Denis Murphy last weekend at Inchydoney. Under Jamie Codd she always took the eye in running and asserted in good style in the closing stages. There is no reason to suggest that she wont improve again and looks the one to side with here if making a quick reappearance. Corella Creek looked a good prospect when making a winning debut between the flags for David Christie, having been well beaten in a bumper at Roscommon in 2015. She was an easy winner on that occasion and should run another good race here. Sophies Flame and Bollmann Lady look best of the remainder.

It has been a long campaign for the Gold Well gelding but looks the pick again as he aims to extend his advantage. Ourmanmassini could only manage to finish third last weekend and is another who has had a long season. If back to form however, he is well capable of putting it up to the selection. Eddies Miracle and Dushrembrandt can battle out the places.

LACES OUT looks the answer to the final race on the card despite failing to really impress in two effort on the pointing circuit this year. The Indian Danehill gelding is best judged on his encouraging debut effort and if back to that form, looks the one to be with. King Nidge looks a player based on his placed effort at Dromahane in late April, along with Oscar Winner for handler Robert Tyner.
