Track Biography:

Laois Hunt Foxhounds hold ther bi-annualy Point-to-Point race meetings on the grounds of Stradbally Hall, the venue for the fixtures for over twenty years. Btoh meetings ran at Stradbally are held in the Spring, the first in mid-April and the second in mid-May. Ease of access and the unique setting make this a very popular event.

Stradbally Hall, as it appears today, dates from the middle of the 19th century. Stradbally Hall has been the seat of the Cosby family since the reign of Edward VI. We are very lucky to have such a picturesque setting where spectators have a view of the full course which runs over beautiful parkland.

One of the joys of point-to-point racing is the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the future stars of Irish racing. Fundamentalist begun his racing career between the flags in the Irish countryside. The Cheltenham Festival winner recorded three wins in the pointing field, the second of which was achieved at Stradbally.

How To Get There

By Road:

Stradbally, on the N80, is located 12km from Portlaoise. With the exception of those travelling from the South East, exit the M7 at Junction 15 and take the N80 straight into the town. Stradbally Hall is on the right as you drive down the main street.

If travelling from the South East, take the N80 from Carlow or the N78 from Kilkenny taking a right turn in Castlecomer, to join the N80. Stradbally Hall is on the left as you drive up the main street.

By Air:

Stradbally point-to-point is located an hour and fifteen minutes from Dublin Airport.

SPECIAL PREP has run well on a number of occasions for trainer Willie Codd and following a short break, this might be the right time to catch him. Second in a four-year-old maiden at Grennan when we last saw the son of Brian Boru, his form last year suggests that he is well capable of breaking his maiden. Chanceanotherfive is another who is probably a shade unlucky not to have shed his maiden tag and showed he was in good form with a recent effort at Durrow. Spring Cover represents the in-form Denis Murphy and has to be taken seriously, while Patriots Prayer and Caviar Dallen look the best of the remainder.

CIRCUIT COURT returned from a mid-season break recently and was beaten just a length in a similar event at Lingstown. Having shaped very well on that occasion, he should improve for his comeback effort and make a bold bid here. Mullaghmurphy Blue has placed in his three career starts and he is sure to give another good account of himself here. Jim Dreapers charge would not be winning out of turn. Stingthebookies has looked good on occasions for Donnchadh Doyle and if he shows up in the right frame of mind, he can certainly play a hand. McCrakens Gate looks best of the rest following a promising debut effort.

CHANCEANOTHERFIVE is probably a shade unlucky not to have shed his maiden tag and since the turn of the year has posted two solid efforts in similar events. His latest effort showed him to be in good health and in a steadier run race, he can play a hand. Military Class has failed to complete in two starts since returning this term but had shown enough promise last season to suggest he is better than that. First Crusade and Satinspar look the best of the remainder.

OURMANMASSINI has been a model of consistency this season and the winning machine showed no signs of stopping when winning at Bellurgan Park recently, his fifth this term. He is the selection again to come out on top if lining up here. Valco De Touzaine will have to put an unusually poor effort behind him but is well capable of doing so and is likely to bounce back to form here. October Revolution fell at the final fence on his seasonal return recently but should be a lot sharper with that under his belt. He looks a danger alongside Free Of Charge and Forjoetheplumber.

FIGHTFIREWITHFIRE has won three of his four starts since early February and the progressive sort rallied gamely to win for trainer Sean Doyle at Monksgrange when last seen. The Firebreak gelding looks to be improving all of the time and is taken to score here. Lady Jameson ended the season last year with two wins to her name. Shark Hanlons mare unfortunately fell first time out this season but she is sure to come on for the run and can be competitive. Teds Island, Big Jack Behan and Lord Getaway look the dangers to the selection.

AINES CHOICE looks to hold the key to the final race on the card having posted some good efforts this season. Trained by Colin Bowe the return to a slightly better surface is likely to suit her and she should go close here. Dingle Gin showed good improvement from her first two outing, by placing at Durrow recently. If the Oscar mare takes another step forward, she can get involved here. Mill Rose Bell looks best of the rest.
