Track Biography:

We run a two-day point-to-point each spring beside the grounds of Durrow Abbey House and Durrow Church which was founded by St Columba in 553.

The back straight runs right in front of the beautiful Durrow Abbey House and makes the point-to-point one of the most picturesque meetings in Ireland. The grounds of our well-presented race track, with its compact location of parade ring, bookies, finish line and services give a pleasant race day experience close to the action.

Our point-to-point is located 10 minutes away from the town of Tullamore which has an abundance of pubs and restaurants as well as plenty of shops and popular tourist attractions such as Tullamore’s large distillery which makes Tullamore Dew, a popular Irish whiskey.

How To Get There

By Road

From Dublin: Take the N4 and then the M4 towards Sligo/Galway/N5/N6. Continue on the M6, follow signs for Galway/Athlone. At junction 5, take the N52 exit to Tullamore/Kilbeggan. At roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto N52. 

From Galway: Follow the M6 motorway, Exit at junction 6 for Kilbeggan. Once off the motorway, take the N52 Kilbeggan to Tullamore road. Durrow is three miles from this exit on the right hand side.

Our point-to-point is located an hour and ten minutes from Dublin airport.

The Getaway mare CRAWFORDS MILL offered plenty of encouragement with her debut performance when finishing a close fourth at Kirkistown a fortnight ago. That initial effort would see her set the benchmark here. Arctic Robin has the greater experience to draw upon and she could enter the reckoning if returning to either of her opening two efforts. Newcomers Someone New or Mahler Style may offer the greatest challenge to the selection.

Hugo N Taz may provide the stiffest opposition, whilst Spuds Trouble ran well recently at Lingstown could hold place claims.

The Gavin Cromwell-trained SEE WHAT has run four times already in 2017, finishing placed in three of those races including when chasing home Delgany Lass at Maralin last Saturday. If re-producing that effort despite the quick turnaround, she would appear to be the one to beat. Sophie Webster ran up a series of placed efforts in 2015, however her form has tailed off. If re-capturing her best, she could get involved here. Working On A Dream, Upton Funk, Longhouse Music and Aunty Kitty are others for the shortlist.

Drawn N Drank would be a very deserving winner of this race as he has filled the runners-up spot on no fewer than each of his last five starts. He is assured to go close once again. Rosc Catha is another multiple winner from the Autumn, and if bouncing back to that form he would hold place claims.

Dual runner-up MYOLDMAN is the standout horse in this race as he has shown plenty of ability in more competitive races at Lisronagh and Lingstown already this season. He will be very tough to beat in this race. Well Bill finished placed at Nenagh in testing conditions in January and could be the main danger on that effort. The market will give the best indication of what is expected from newcomers Le Aqua and Why Ask.

GLACIAL SHADOW has come down at the final fence in each of his last two starts, including most recent at The Pigeons just seven-days ago. A clear round of jumping would see him go close. Taylors Guest is another horse who has failed to negotiate the final fence on his latest outing, as he appeared booked for the runners-up spot when coming down at Tyrella. He is a very consistent sort who would be deserving of maiden success here. The unlucky Military Class, Enbarr Of Mannan and Deise Dougal are others to have shown potential in the past.
