Track Biography:
The Galway Blazers have a long history of holding a point-to-point dating back over a hundred years. The hunt dates from the beginning of the 19th century and has established itself as one of the famous Irish Hunts due to the goodwill and generosity of farmers and landowners throughout the county.
We run two meetings a year at Dartfield just outside Loughrea with the first one taking place in October and the second fixture being held in April. The course is situated at Dartfield Horse Museum and heritage centre which is set on 350 acres of parkland just forty minutes from Galway city.
Over the years, Loughrea point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as Bewleys Berry, Boys Hurrah, Brindisi Breeze, Never Compromise and King Johns Castle.
How To Get There
By Road
From the Dublin take the M6 as far as the Ballinasloe West exit 15, and continue on the N6 towards Loughrea/Galway as far as Kilreekil village. Dartfield is half a mile beyond the village on the right hand side of the N6.
From Galway take the M6 and exit at Junction 16 for Loughrea. After approx. three miles on the access road you arrive at a roundabout, take the first exit. Continue past the Portumna Junction for less than a mile, and the entrance to Dartfield will be on your left.

Loughrea is situated 30 minutes from Galway airport and an hour and 50 minutes from Dublin airport.

GETAWAY TRUMP made a more than pleasing debut when finishing third in a similar event at Curraghmore recently. The Getaway gelding looks the type to improve with that effort under his belt and he is taken to score here. Shannon Bridge has two runs to his name and looked an improved performer when finishing fourth at Ballynoe earlier this month. The Flemensfirth gelding rates a danger to the selection along with Florrie Knox, Risky Gold, Rough Night and Moonshine Bay.

OVER STATED has failed to complete in three starts for trainer Tom Keating but has shown enough to suggest he is well capable of winning an event like this. The Shantou gelding was a length down when falling at the final fence at Monksgrange late last month and the better ground conditions are likely to play to his strengths. Circuit Court has been a model of consistency for Willie Codd and deserves to get his head in front following two second-placed finishes. Canyouringmeback, Highway One O One and Seskin Flyer have all shown enough to suggest they can get involved and rate a danger to the selection.

SLIABH MHUIRE LASS ran her best race to date at the beginning of this month, when she finished a close-up second at Loughbrickland. The Grandera mare looks well capable to take this prize if reproducing that latest effort. Kilnesare Kate improved on her debut effort to finish second at Dromahane earlier this month and if she improves again, she can put it up to the selection. Rokazo has done little wrong in her last two starts and is likely to run another solid race. Robin De Plan, Rathbawn Rose, Perle Rose and Castle Fairy look best of the remainder.

CAVITE BETA has been successful on his last three outings and the Jim Dreaper-trained gelding looks the pick in this race to make it a four-timer. The Old Vic gelding has been impressive since making his pointing debut in March and despite being an 11-year-old, he has shown that he retains plenty of ability. Valco De Touzaine also comes into this race off the back of a win and Pat Doyles charge was impressive in taking an open at Stradbally last week. He looks a danger to the selection along with The Baler and Drawn N Drank.

SPECIAL PREP was freshened up with a break having finished second in a four-year-old maiden at Grennan in November. The Brian Boru gelding made a successful return at Stradbally last weekend to shed his maiden tag for trainer Willie Codd. He is likely to improve for that reappearance and looks the one to side with here. Itsanoldcliche passed the post first at Stradbally recently but was later disqualified having taken the wrong course early on. He is sure to put up a bold performance here again. Noruki and Carraig Thuathail rate the main dangers of the rest.
