Track Biography:
The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie. It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.
Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.
Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.
Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.
How To Get There
From Newtownards
Take the A20, signposted to Kircubbin/Portaferry. After Kircubbin turn left into the B173, signposted to Portavogie/Cloughey. Follow this road for about 3 miles and you will pass the Kirkistown Motor Racing Track on your left. After a further half mile you will see the entrance to our track on your left.
From Newry and south of the border
Take the A1 north to Hillsborough. Then go through Hillsborough and follow the signs for Carryduff/Comber on the B178. Join the A21 and go through Comber to Newtownards. Follow the directions above from Newtownards. There is an alternative route using the Strangford to Portaferry ferry which is about 15 miles shorter.
From the West
Leave the M1 at Lisburn (junction 6). Take the A49 and then follow the signs for Carryduff/Comber on the B178. Join the A21 and go through Comber to Newtownards. Follow the directions above from Newtownards.
By Air
Our point-to-point is located an hour and a half from Belfast International airport and two and a half hours from Dublin airport.

BASTANTE may be worth a second chance in this contest given that she was only defeated by a short-head at this venue back in November. Extremely disappointing at Lingstown in a competitive contest, she will look to get her career back on track here. Little Millie offered promise with her encouraging third behind the impressive Loveherandleaveher at Tyrella last month and she is a more unexposed rvial. Of the newcomers, the Colin Bowe-trained Classic Impact is nicely related as a full-sister to the Grade 2 winning hurdler Wymott, and it may be worth noting how she fares on debut.

That opening effort could leave him as the one to beat here. Myoldman was behind the selection at the time of his departure and may need to overturn that form to get his head in front, whilst Alone No More would be worthy of the shortlist if putting his best foot forward.

VALMY BAIE created a real stir with his course and distance success around here in November when defeating the former Champion Point-to-Pointer Mr Bolt, despite planting himself at the start and surrendering countless lengths in the process. A disappointing display at Down Royal over Christmas was too bad to be true, but he may have to be back to his best if he is to defeat Aupcharilie, who has changed yards since last seeing competitive action. A classy sort on his day, he defeated Marito at Oldtown 12 months ago and was only beaten five lengths in the Cheltenham Foxhunters last year. If both stand their ground and run their true race, this could be a fascinating match-up.

LACKEN BRIDGE has been a busy campaigner of late, having only won his maiden at Tallow last Sunday, but he was barely out of second gear to record a deserved success on that occasion, and with some notable placed form from older maidens including behind subsequent Nenagh winners of two victor Highandmighty at Killeagh last month, he can quickly double-up here. The Trigger represents the in-form McParlan team on his return between the flags, and having finished third in a Cartmel Handicap Hurdle during the summer, he could go well here. Isnt She Lovely and Francie Gwynne may be next best.

The Brian Hamilton-trained BI QUINI TIEP only went down by a length to Rainbow Bridge around here in the autumn and that could have him primed to get off the mark here. Track recruit Crowded Room may well be an 11-year-old maiden, however he has finished placed 10-times on the track including at Leopardstown 12 months ago when with Michael Cunningham. With a chase mark of 102, that should make him a very interesting proposition on his debut for Marshall Watson. Meanwhile, the newcomer Benefit North was a ?32,000 purchase as a three-year-old and could go well on his belated debut.
