Track Biography:
East Down Foxhounds Point-to-Point course at Tyrella is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mourne Mountains made famous by the Percy French song.
With the 2018 Spring season, East Down will have been racing at Tyrella for fifty four years. Two meetings are held each Spring, in January and March.
Normally the first meeting of the Spring calendar in the Northern Region, Tyrella is a right handed undulating track where, given it’s close proximity to the sea and sandy soil is well drained and more often than not, produces good going.

How To Get There
By Road
From The South:
Take the M1 North from Dublin. In Newry take the A25 through Rathfriland. In Clough at T junction go right and immediately left to get to Tyrella.
From the West:
Leave the M1 at Lisburn (junction 6). Take the A1 turning off at Hillsborough. Follow the signs to Ballynahinch and then follow the signs for Newcastle. Go through Seaforde village and then Clough. At the end of Clough Main Street turn left, following the sign for Tyrell. The course is on the right after about four miles.
From the North:
Take the M2 to Belfast. Continue on to the M1. Leave the M1 at Lisburn (junction 6). Take the A1 turning off at Hillsborough. Follow the signs to Ballynahinch and then follow the signs for Newcastle. The Pat Coffey-trained AYELOOLA was a beaten odds-on favourite at Borris House last month having entered the race off the back of an unlucky final fence departure when upsides Lostin A Fog, a horse who has since won a Boulta maiden and a Bumper at the recent Barbury International fixture. Whilst Cheltenham Mati, whom she finished half-a-length behind at Borris has also since won a British point for new connections. That should see her as the one to beat with Tattersalls runner-up Loveherandleaveher as the chief danger.

BACK TO BATAAN would likely have finished placed on his debut at Lisroangh and he could well make amends here in an open looking affair. The consistent Goldwells Trouble has finished fourth in each fo his two starts to date, and can take a step forward here, whilst Dance The Rapids finished placed at Kirkistown during the Autumn when with Ado McGuiness, and he has since changed yards as he has first start for the Sean Gallagher team here.

AS THE CROW FLIES will seek to bring-up his hat-trick of victories in this contest and he could well be tough to beat having won in good style at both Loughbrickland and Kirkistown during the Autumn. Battle Anthem saw his winning run during the Autumn come to a halt in a competitive contest at Lingstown in December, however he could once again get involved here, whilst Francie Gwynne would be capable of getting involved on the pick of his form, however he has yet to complete his seasonal debuts in previous years which would be a concern.

VALMY BAIE was soundly beaten in the Hunter Chase at Down Royal over Christmas in an effort which was nowhere near his true potential. A three-time winner already this season, he is taken to return to winning ways here. Stable companion goes in search of her fifth straight victory and is a lively alternative if the former is not declared, whilst Balnaslow has been a thoroughly competitive sort all season long and ran with credit to finish fifth in a very hot open at Tinahely earlier this month.

JAMIES CHARM was quite unfortunate to not have made a winning debut when taking on geldings at Lisronagh last month, as she held every chance when coming to grief at the final fence. Dropping back to mares-only company, she looks hard to oppose. Commercial Ruin is another who must overcome a fall on her latest outing, however she has not been seen since running at Armagh almost 12 months ago which would be a worry. Prior to that, she posted a likeable display at this venue when a close third in testing conditions.

Preview
The Gillian Callaghan-trained REAL WARRIOR was heavily involved in the place battle at Borris House on his latest outing when coming down at the penultimate fence. Prior to that, he had finished placed on debut behind the subsequent winner As The Crow Flies at Loughbrickland. That initial form line should see him hold strong claims here. Track recruit Crowded Room may well be an 11-year-old maiden, however he has finished placed 10-times on the track including at Leopardstown 12 months ago when with Michael Cunningham. With a chase mark of 102, that should make him a very interesting proposition on his debut for Marshall Watson.
