Track Biography:
Scarteen has long been synonymous with Hounds, Hunting and hospitality. When Thady and Anne Ryan retired to New Zealand in 1987, Chris and Sue took the reins and have maintained this tradition.
The Scarteen (Black and Tan) Hounds have been in the Ryan family for over 350 years and attract visitors from all over the world.
We have held our point-to-point at Kilfeacle on John Heaney’s land for over 15 years. It has attracted many good horses over the years including the likes of Dorans Pride, Ned Kelly and First Lieutenant.
How To Get There
By Road
Travelling south from Dublin along the N8, take the N74 out of Cashel. Watch out for a sign to the right along this road in Kilfeacle.
By Air
Our point-to-point is located an hour and fifteen minutes from Cork airport.

In a race containing a number of horses with recent placed form to their names, it may be worth siding with the Roisin Hickey-trained KNOCKOURA who finished a staying-on close second at Lisronagh on debut before Christmas. That form should see him as the likely standard bearer. The well-bred Minella Mischief is another who made up good late ground on debut and he comes here a fresh horse having had his introduction back in October. Kingsplace was unable to follow-up an encouraging debut at Corbeagh House, whilst Stand Down has been running consistently of late.

Track recruit KESTREL was only headed on the run-in at Boulta on New Years Day on what was his first outing for over a year. Placed three times over hurdles, that race fitness will stand to him here and he should prove tough to beat. Black Scorpion also has placed track form to his name and he posted a career best at Dromahane over Christmas and is sure to be one of the chief dangers. Sophie Webster is likely next best of those with previous experience to their name.

AUNT EVA could be turned out for the third week in succession if lining-up here, however she brings the strongest form to the race, given that having finished placed twice last season, she was also only headed at the final fence at Killeagh last Sunday. Providing the quick turnaround does not takes its toll, she is the one to beat. Reine Des Pres was beaten less than 10-lengths in a four-year-old contest on her debut and is an eye-catching unexposed runner, whilst Pineapple Crush has a similar profile and can be expected to get involved here.

Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up SIR DES CHAMPS heads the entry for this contest, and whilst his form has tailed off in his recent track outings, he is sure to be a big player here. Stable companion First Lieutenant ran well at Aghabullogue a fortnight ago and would set the standard if his stable companion fails to line-up, whilst Oscar Vespasian caught the eye finishing fourth behind On His Own at Tinahely on his first start over fences. Rosc Catcha is the only horse entered in here with an open success from this season under his belt, as he goes in search of a four-timer, although this is his toughest assignment to date.

CAPTAIN BIZARRO, who was unlucky not to win his maiden at this venue back in 2015, enters this race having finished second in the Limerick Hunter Chase at Christmas on his seasonal re-appearance and that form stands out here. Strideout Euro was unable to land a blow in that Limerick contest, however he was a dual winner last season who finished second in open company during the Autumn. Pocket Talk looked an above average older maiden winner at Aghabullogue, and he could well be the chief danger.

Lacken Bridge finished a close second to Byrnes Highandmighty at Killeagh last Sunday, and connections will be looking to gain quick compensation here, whilst Staker Wallace is a rare runner in an older maiden in the JP McManus colours, and he has to be respected having last run on the track in a Listed Novice Hurdle.
