Track Biography:

Point-to-Point racing has a long and rich history at the scenic location of Fairwood Park, Tinahely, since 1989. Fairwood Park also plays host to the Tinahely Agricultural Show each summer which is one of Ireland's longest running agricultural show.

Jamie Codd, who is the second winning-most point-to-point rider in the history of the sport became the first modern day rider to ride all six winners on the one card at Tinahely in October 2011.

Previous track winners to have won at Tinahely include former Grade One winner Fundamentalist and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up On His Own.

Tinahely is situated in the heart of the Wicklow countryside, the garden of Ireland. Located just an hour and half from the bustle of Dublin city, Tinahely is a pretty village in south west Wicklow that offers a variety of walking opportunities and a gateway to the beautiful Irish landscape.

How To Get There

By Road

From Dublin – Take the M50 southbound and turn onto the M11. At Junction 16, take the R772 to Rathnew. Continue on the R752/753 where the track will be sign posted.

From Waterford – Take the N9 until junction 5 where you need to take the N80 exit for Carlow/Rosslare.

By Air

Tinahely point-to-point is located an hour and forty minutes from Dublin airport.

In a race in which a number of horses bring placed form to the table, it may be worth siding with the Colin Bowe-trained AUNT EVA who makes her seasonal re-appearance. A consistent sort, finishing placed in two of her three starts last term, she looks the one to beat. Delgany Lass and Kilbarry Cushty both finished third on their latest outings and are open to improvement whilst the newcomer Corcadia represents a yard whose runners are worth noting on debut.

With the well-bred Kingsplace disappointing somewhat at Kirkistown most recent following an encouraging debut at Corbeah House earlier in the Autumn, the unlucky penultimate fence faller MINELLA ENCROE gets the nod for this contest following that pleasing debut effort. Compensation can await here. Dont Act Up represents some in-form connections and he finished fourth behind Dasking Perk at Rockfield, a horse who ran well in a Listed Ascot Bumper subsequently to ensure he could get involved, whilst Stand Down and Secret Mahler are others who can play a role in this.

As has been the case for much of the Autumn, the open lightweights have been hotly contested and this looks no different with Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up ON HIS OWN set to have his first start between the flags since winning as a five-year-old at Maralin for Oliver McKiernan. Last seen falling heavily at the Chair in the Aintree Grand National, he is the class act here. Dawrins Fox was a Grade 3 winner for Henry de Bromhead and is certainly interesting on his first outing for David Christie, Balnaslow ran a cracker at Down Royal over Christmas, whilst Need To Know was a winner around here in October.

A fairly open looking winners contest which could go the way of DEFINITELY FUREYS who will attempt remain unbeaten following a debut success at Oldlcastle in April in a race which has produced two subsequent maiden winners including the runner-up to frank the form. Cada Club has largely struggled since his maiden success at Durrow so it may fall to one of the more recent maiden winners such as the mare Chapter Two, who got off the mark at Borris House before Christmas, to put up the greatest opposition.

The Winged Love mare OUR HENRIETTA was in the process of running a big race when coming down at the penultimate fence at Borris House last month and she can gain deserved compensation here. The connections of Kilganer Queen make the journey from County Galway with their Rockfield runner-up, and if she can re-capture that effort having been well-beaten at Glenbane when last seeing competitive action, she would have to be seen as a big player, whilst Glebe Harmony has twice finished third in the past and can once again hold place claims.

BEN BRODY bumped into one of the most capable horses in the older maiden division this season at Lingstown last month in Sprintingforgold, and it will be a surprise if he is unable to follow that promise up with a maiden success here. Galbraith was unable to repeat his Maralin effort at Borris most recently, however he did make a bad mistake which may excuse that effort somewhat, whilst the perennially placed Fact Flow who has finished in the frame in eight of his 15 starts between the flags, will likely not be too far away on that evidence.
