Track Biography:
Sitting on 420 acres along the banks of the Boyne River, the Lands at Dowth host a wealth of Neolithic and medieval archaeology. It is part of the Brú na Bóinne Unesco World Heritage Site.
Acquired by the Brennan Family in 2013, the Lands and Dowth Hall are currently undergoing restoration work. Since 2016, the Lands have been opened to the public on numerous occasions including Family Fun Days which saw over 1,200 people walk a trail discovering the Lands archaeology and architecture and learned how food and farming have influenced the landscape over the past 6,000 years.
Dowth Hall hosted racing as early as the 1700’s. Reinstating this proud tradition in 2015, Devenish took the opportunity to partner with the Meath & Tara Committee to host the Autumn Point-to-Point at Dowth. It was a special occasion for all concerned, and the first time that Dowth had been open to the public in many years. The return of racing to the ‘Old Racecourse’ restores the sporting heritage as part of the wider estate restoration project.
Dowth has always had a strong connection with racing, and was first owned by the Netterville family designed the Racecourse in the 1700’s. It was later sold to the Gradwell family who bred the horse ‘Drogheda’, winner of the 1898 Aintree Grand National. More recently the Cameron Family owned Dowth. Tony Cameron, who was an accomplished jockey and equestrian, competed at two Olympics in Three Day Eventing, Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964. Perhaps his greatest achievement in the saddle was finishing 4th on Gay Navaree in the 1962 Aintree Grand National. We were delighted that Tony has returned as acting steward at Dowth Point-to-Point.

After 2.5km turn left signposted Dowth (L1607)
After 2.5km Dowth Hall entrance is on the left.

Dowth Hall point-to-point is located just 30-minutes from Dublin Airport which offers connections across Europe and further afield.

The four-year-old maiden has received one of the biggest entries of the season and of those with previous form to their names, MISTERCOBAR, a penultimate fence faller at Loughanmore earlier this month, would set the standard as he was running a big race behind the impressive Jerrysback. Three Kings ran well for a long way at Loughrea in testing conditions on his debut, whilst General Consensus, Minellatillmorning and Jack Devine all have previous placed form and have to be respected. The market will give an indication as to which of the newcomers are expected to figure prominently.

In a race which has received a very strong entry, it is hard to look past the Gordon Elliott-trained ROI DU MEE if the former Grade 1 winner takes up this engagement as he could prove to be in a class of his own. Maple Mons lost her recent unbeaten run when exiting at the first fence last Sunday in a race which was won by Abigail Lynch. Both will be in receipt of a valuable mares? allowance. Castletown winner Ourmanmassini will be better suited by ground conditions here, whilst the 140-rated Valco De Touzaine has joined Pat Doyle from Paul Nicholls and was placed in Grade 2 company and he would look the big threat to Roi Du Mee.

The Pat Coffey-trained AR FHEABHAS AR FAD was unable to land a challenge in two starts under rules during the summer, however she ended last season with a promising second at Kinsale in a 13-runner contest, and if she was able to re-capture that form, she may the one to follow in an open contest. Morestead Stream is a previously track-placed mare who would need to step-up on her Loughrea effort, Blue Ghost finished fifth on her sole start to date and is open to improvement, whilst Popatop was running well for a long way in that same Tinahely contest and could be suited by conditions.

INSUFFICIENT FUNDS looks the standout performer in this contest as the son of Bach has his first start for Tom Keating having finished second on both starts last season when with George Webb. Both of those races have worked out well with his Nenagh conqueror Aintree My Dream winning both subsequent starts under rules for Dan Skelton. Track recruit Incitatum is rated 104 over hurdles and finished placed over the smaller obstacles Fairyhouse in April, and he would look the big danger.

LADY JAMESON defeated the more experienced Touchy, Sixteen Again and Nevada Rose at Tinahely earlier this month, and even though all three could re-oppose her once again here, that was just her second career start and she looks a progressive individual who should take beating here. Touchy led home the challengers at Tinahely and could once again be a contender, whilst Aines Double defeating geldings in winners company last season and has to be respected.
