Track Biography:

Point-to-Point racing has a long and rich history at the scenic location of Fairwood Park, Tinahely, since 1989. Fairwood Park also plays host to the Tinahely Agricultural Show each summer which is one of Ireland's longest running agricultural show.

Jamie Codd, who is the second winning-most point-to-point rider in the history of the sport became the first modern day rider to ride all six winners on the one card at Tinahely in October 2011.

Previous track winners to have won at Tinahely include former Grade One winner Fundamentalist and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up On His Own.

Tinahely is situated in the heart of the Wicklow countryside, the garden of Ireland. Located just an hour and half from the bustle of Dublin city, Tinahely is a pretty village in south west Wicklow that offers a variety of walking opportunities and a gateway to the beautiful Irish landscape.

How To Get There

By Road

From Dublin – Take the M50 southbound and turn onto the M11. At Junction 16, take the R772 to Rathnew. Continue on the R752/753 where the track will be sign posted.

From Waterford – Take the N9 until junction 5 where you need to take the N80 exit for Carlow/Rosslare.

By Air

Tinahely point-to-point is located an hour and forty minutes from Dublin airport.

Gigginstown House Stud have enjoyed four-year-old winners on each of the last two weekends, and they launched leading Cheltenham Festival contender Alpha Des Obeaux to win his maiden on debut at this meeting back in 2014, so their trio of entrants including NARCISSISTIC, who was bought by Willie Mullins and Harold Kirk for 320,000 at the Derby Sale in June could well be the pick. Timewaitsfornoone will have learned plenty from his debut at Punchestown last Sunday and he can offer the main opposition.

CHASE ME finishing second behind the subsequent Clonmel Hunter Chase winner Hedgeinator around here last month, and whilst he was somewhat disappointing when only fourth at Ballinaboola on his latest outing, he is capable of winning a maiden such as this. Dont Be Short stepped-up on his debut when finishing fourth at Tallow a fortnight ago, and with further progression he would sit as next best amongst those with form.

NEED TO KNOW is a previous course winner and he was only narrowly denied in a tight finish by Sydney Paget who has since come out and won easily at Belharbour to boost that form. He will therefore be tough to beat if repeating that effort. David Christie has his Open horses in top form with Maple Mons seeking a third straight win on the bounce and therefore enters the race in the stronger form of his pair, whilst Duers ran well for a long way at Oldtown a fortnight ago.

SPARKLING RIVER was only narrowly beaten around here in January, and she had the misfortune of bumping into an above average looking rival at Tallow on her latest outing, so she is most deserving of a maiden success. Katies Hen has plenty of placed form to her name however she will need to bounce back to form following a below-par effort at Ballinaboola, whilst Doesntbotherme stepped-up to finish second at Oldtown a fortnight ago and may offer the greatest challenge to the selection.

GOLDMINEINTHESKY won his maiden around here in January and he has since run out the impressive winner of a competitive race at Oldtown a fortnight ago, so he is taken to extend his winning run here. Flathertys Gap won well in testing conditions at Lisronagh prior to Christmas, and so he enters this as a fresh horse, whilst Silver Serenade ran well in testing conditions just last week and providing that run as not left its mark on her, she would have place claims.

It may be worth taking a chance on SINGING BANJO here in a wide open race as he showed promise over course and distance behind the Clonmel Hunter Chase victor Hedgeinator. Whilst he was a shade disappointing at Oldtown last time, he could go close if returning to the form of that run around here from last month. Pat The Pigeon showed promise on Good ground at Kinsale at the end of last season, and that would entitle him to claims if he handled the ground conditions here.
