Track Biography:

East Down Foxhounds Point-to-Point course at Tyrella is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mourne Mountains made famous by the Percy French song.

With the 2018 Spring season, East Down will have been racing at Tyrella for fifty four years. Two meetings are held each Spring, in January and March.

Normally the first meeting of the Spring calendar in the Northern Region, Tyrella is a right handed undulating track where, given it’s close proximity to the sea and sandy soil is well drained and more often than not, produces good going.

This video from @NotFromHereStories gives you a snapshot of the picture-postcard setting that Tyrella point-to-point takes place in.

BALLYCROSS, the only horse with competitive experience, was only beaten twelve lengths in a decent contest at Kirkistown last month and will be expected to come on for the run. The market should determine the biggest dangers amongst the newcomers.

THREE HAIL MARYS bumped into a smart mare at Bennetsbridge last time, and representing the very much in-form Colin Bowe yard, she has the strongest form in the book. Lough Derg Cruise has proven course form having finished a promising second around here in January and she has the measure of Taboo on that form. Midnight Theatre was only beaten seven lengths at Oldtown in a race that has already produced one winner so looks solid.

SHANROE STREET was fancied ahead of his debut around here in January when he bumped into a nice type. He has an easier alternative engagement and may run elsewhere leaving Fagan as the one to beat should he not run. Fagan ran in one of the strongest maidens of the Autumn at Tattersalls behind two subsequent Bumper winners and a re-production of that effort should see him take this. Shanroe Boru is a likely danger having produced an improved performance around here in January.

BIG JACK BEHAN was in touch when unseating at Maralin on his winners level debut, and having won a Tattersalls maiden that has since produced two winners, he can double up here. The Borris winner Bultergrove King offers the main opposition as he appeared to be returning to something close to his best at Cregg last time and will likely be suited by the track. Maple Mons is best of the rest.

MR BOLT, a dual winner this season, beat Illusion Of Time around here in January and with that horse coming out and winning at Armagh last week, that form gets a timely boost and he is awarded the verdict here. Count Massini is a decent horse in his own right but he is held by the selection on the form line through Illusion Of Time, who he was third to at Kirkistown in the Autumn.

BALLYMARKET BOY was narrowly beaten at Loughnamore back in 2013 on his sole previous start between the flags and he comes here with fair track form having finished fourth to Clondaw Farmer at Down Royal during the Summer. Bills Official has recent form which may give him chances against a number of rivals with question marks of their recent race fitness, whilst Lions Choice and Makloud at their very best could have place chances.
