Track Biography:

Sitting on 420 acres along the banks of the Boyne River, the Lands at Dowth host a wealth of Neolithic and medieval archaeology. It is part of the Brú na Bóinne Unesco World Heritage Site.

Acquired by the Brennan Family in 2013, the Lands and Dowth Hall are currently undergoing restoration work. Since 2016, the Lands have been opened to the public on numerous occasions including Family Fun Days which saw over 1,200 people walk a trail discovering the Lands archaeology and architecture and learned how food and farming have influenced the landscape over the past 6,000 years.

Dowth Hall hosted racing as early as the 1700’s. Reinstating this proud tradition in 2015, Devenish took the opportunity to partner with the Meath & Tara Committee to host the Autumn Point-to-Point at Dowth. It was a special occasion for all concerned, and the first time that Dowth had been open to the public in many years. The return of racing to the ‘Old Racecourse’ restores the sporting heritage as part of the wider estate restoration project.

Dowth has always had a strong connection with racing, and was first owned by the Netterville family designed the Racecourse in the 1700’s. It was later sold to the Gradwell family who bred the horse ‘Drogheda’, winner of the 1898 Aintree Grand National. More recently the Cameron Family owned Dowth. Tony Cameron, who was an accomplished jockey and equestrian, competed at two Olympics in Three Day Eventing, Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964. Perhaps his greatest achievement in the saddle was finishing 4th on Gay Navaree in the 1962 Aintree Grand National. We were delighted that Tony has returned as acting steward at Dowth Point-to-Point.

Come racing this October 28th and be part of the story of Dowth.

Donnchadh Doyle saddled a four-year-old maiden winner last Saturday at Portrush, and he could well swiftly follow up with PASVOLSKY. A close third at Necarne on his debut, he looked destined to be placed once again at Inchydoney only to come down at the second last, and this should likely be a similar grade race. Stablemate Texas Gold disappointed at Toomebridge on the opening day of the season, whilst Ardhill and Ballydam both represent another stable in form, that of Colin McKeever.

The two horses that chased home the smart looking Do Your Job at Castletown Geoghegan on the opening weekend of the new season could re-oppose, with both Elmdale and Beatthebullet, featuring in the entries. The former was having just second start and is taken to confirm the Castletown placings once again here. Song Of The Hunter, The New Kid and Er Dancer are others who can make an impact.

SPACE CADET was reported to be preparing for a tilt at the Troytown Chase at Navan next month following his victory at Castletown-Geoghegan three weeks ago, and he will be looking to come out on top here in a bid to bolster his chances at that valuable handicap. Some Are Lucky and Reigning Supreme chased him home at Castletown and will certainly not be too far away, whilst track recruit Measureofmydreams, last Sundays Tinahely winner Better B Quick and Bridgets Pet, who was second at Portrush last Saturday, add further depth to the race.

DREAM DE DREAM outran her big starting price when finishing fourth at Toomebridge on the opening day of the season, and with the horse she finished less than a length behind, coming out and winning at Portrush last Saturday, her effort has received a timely boost. With the stable in good form, she is the one to beat. Queen Among Kings is rarely out of the money in recent outings and will likely go close, whilst Kalamansi Cooler could be of interest if improving for the change to a new yard.

LIKE A DEMON finished placed behind subsequent Aintree Foxhunters runner-up Burning Ambition when tackling hunter chase company at Down Royal last March, and will likely face nothing of that level here, as his connections look for their second successive victory at this fixture, having won the open 12 months ago with Mr Boss man. Pegase Amour has returned to points in good form this season, whilst Pyrios dead-heated at Castletown-Geoghegan to win his maiden for the second time and can step up.
