Track Biography:

Kildorrery race committee provide an ideal family day out in a picturesque setting with everything close to hand.

Holding their first point-to-point in 1939, races moved to its present venue in 1979. We have been lucky to have been involved in the build up to Cheltenham races in recent years with our meeting being held on the last Sunday to qualify for the Foxhunters. We also hosted a Cheltenham racing press day in 2004.

Notable horses that ran here include Scorpiancer who won his five-year-old maiden on his debut for Eugene O’Sullivan before going on to win the Foxbrook Champion hurdle in the USA.

Other horses of note to have ran here include Monty’s Pass who won the 2003 Aintree Grand National.
 

How To Get There

By Road

N73 from Mitchestown to Kildorrery- turn left in Kildorrey village.
N73 Mallow to Kildorrery-turn right in the village.
Fermoy N8 to Glanworth- follow the road to Kildorrery. At Rockmills village the racecourse is on the right hand side.

By Air

Our point-to-point is located fifty minutes from Cork airport.

ROBYN BELLE offered plenty of promise with her third placed effort on debut in a four-year-old mares contest at Curraheen back in May. If primed for her seasonal re-appearance here, she appears to have the strongest form in the book. Marienstar was placed at Killeagh, however she failed to complete at Tallow earlier this month and will have to bounce back to form. Of the newcomers Keepbackitoldya and Kerrie Girl may be worth noting.

CASTLE ON A CLOUD holds a number of engagements across the weekend and this may be the most open of the races which he is entered in. His run at Liscarroll received a boost when the winner took a Bumper at Kempton on his track debut recently and as Castle On A Cloud was in the process of making a pleasing re-appearance at Oldtown earlier in the month, he sets the standard. Both Greyed A and Coole Cody have shown a similar level of ability to date and may need to step-up to challenge the selection.

Harry The Lemmon disappointed on his first start for a new yard at Ballyvoddock, however with recent placed rules form to his name, he cannot be easily overlooked, whilst Quarry Wizzard would hold claims on the form of his second at Templencarriga.

The veteran SIZING AUSTRALIA was back to winning ways at the age of 14 just two weeks ago at Tallow and as this does not look to be a vintage contest, he is more than capable of doubling-up. Landmarque was disappointing behind the selection at Tallow, however if he could bounce back to his Dungarvan form he would be entitled to go close, whilst Golden Crisp was far from discredited at Killeagh and holds place claims.

A STRAY SHOT is arguably the form horse in the race as he finished sixth at the Cheltenham Festival on his penultimate start and he made a pleasing re-appearance at Ballinaboola last month on his return from an absence as he was running well for a long way before tiring in the closing stages. That will have brought him on and he can get back to the winners enclosure here. Silver Serenade makes a quick re-appearance but will likely have more on her plate against the selection as she steps out of mares company, whilst Kilcolman Hill has an easier alternative at Cragmore, which leaves the wide margin Dromahane winner Quarry Rua as the main danger.

ROCKINROLLDIXIE is also the selection for the Adjacent maiden earlier in the card and whichever race he runs in he will be the horse to beat following a promising third-placed effort in a competitive maiden at Rathcannon in the Autumn. Sidswar was second at Ballingarry at the end of last season before going on to finish a competitive fourth in a maiden hurdle during the Summer, and he will likely be a leading player on his return between the flags, with Dick Darsie, stablemate of the selection and Hurricane Ben are others with claims.
